Air Dolomiti fleet expansion – possible 150-seater

Air Dolomiti management seems to be working on its fleet expansion. Over the next two years, five E195s will join the fleet. Those will be transferred from Lufthansa Cityline, which will get some A319s instead. Another nine E190s are possible until 2024, but this is not yet decided. Also the management considers acquiring a new, bigger aircraft type "in the 150-seat segment". Mentioned are the A220 and Embraer E2.

Seems all quite plausible, Air Dolomiti mostly flies feeders to and from LH's main hubs FRA and MUC, only very few flights are sold under their own brand. The E195 seems to be working exceptionally well for them, while some bigger aircraft may help on their own routes. Now it will be interesting, whether it will be A220 or E2. I'd say the E195-E2 would be the plausible addition, as it would keep commonality with their current fleet, even though it is a little bit smaller than the mentioned 150 seats. On the other hand, Lufthansa group still holds 30 options for additional A220s and I can also imagine that LH will redeem the options. There are only very few E2s flying so far, so it could be easier to get some good slots from their A220-options instead of queuing in for the E2, depending of course when the airline will need the bigger aircraft.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa I can see them going down the path of A220 if they're really expanding into 150-seater category - sounds like a good replacement to E190 in the mid-long run. They can also use the bargaining power that LH has to secure a sweet deal on A220 pricing.

Does LH pilots have scope protection? Presumably not if LH Cityline operates A340-300s and A319s? How larger aircraft could Air Dolomiti operate? Presumably the CS300 would not make for harmonious relations with LH mainline pilots?

Is there much difference in cost base between an E195 being operated by Air Dolomiti vs by LH Cityline?

EN supposedly has a lower cost base than city line, which has lower costs than LH mainline.

Regarding scope, in the new agreement from 2017 there is a specified number of planes which have to be flown by mainline.
