Alright looks like we are back in business.

AA has an inbound from MIA landing shortly.

DL mainline has pushed a few aircraft off the gate and heading to the deice pad before takeoff.

Anyone know why yesterday's flight to ICN turned around over Canada and went back to DTW?

I saw a tweet that it was a medical diversion...can't confirm it actually was though.

Fine day here in MSP! :)

Funny. It only took one pandemic for those who argue endlessly about natural selection to stop believing in natural selection.

The good news is that it happened on a Tuesday in mid/late January, historically one of the slowest travel days of the year. LF will be much smaller than in a month or two, especially for the late bank.
We don’t care what your next flight is.

Yeah, they shut down last night right before the 8pm departure bank so there naturally would be a lot of airplanes on the gates including the late TATL flights never went out.

My wife, a DL crew member, was on the last TATL flight to leave DTW last night. She said the taxiway was extremely slick, forcing them to taxi at a very slow speed to avoid a slide-off.

She was glad to get out DTW though, because the next two AMS flts XLD as others have posted.

USA Today reporting 275 cancelations today at DTW, plus nearly the same number from yesterday.

What's surprising to me is that DL didn't issue a weather waiver until after the airport was closed. DL is stingy on waivers, but that's taking it to a new level.

I think weatherman missed this one big time. Even in the late evening yesterday forecast was freezing rain just for 1 hour around 8-9PM, turning back to snow and rain starting from 1 AM. Even schools sent out the message early this morning.

Also, this is the first week with considerable snow accumulation and freezing rain in SE Michigan. Snow ploughs and salt trucks also showed up late. MDOT reported too many accidents.

I doubt anyone including DTW and DL was ready for it.

Dude can you go one thread without criticizing DL?

This affected all airlines at DTW and by and large the forecasts blew the projections for freezing rain. It was supposed to have warmed up a lot faster than it did.

Dude, can you not make this personal? I don't often dip my toes into the DL waters thanks to junk like this. I could level plenty of personal attacks too, but that's for the immature.

Fact is, DL didn't issue a waiver until well after the airport was closed. If that's acceptable to you, then fine, you can stand up for it. I don't find that acceptable customer service, especially from an airline that crows about its in-house meteorological team. There were daily reports of this storm having the potential to be a mess leading up to yesterday. Waivers are for potential issues, not active ones!

The point here in metro Detroit was that no one was calling for an extended icing event even as late as 6pm. There was a winter weather advisory for snow changing to rain from 5pm-8pm.

It was not predicted to be a problem than linger well into Wednesday morning until late yesterday evening.

MSP will get ours this weekend. Current forecast calling for snow Sunday into Monday. No ice, however, VERY COLD.
