Did AA fly long haul to STL and/or SJC?

Fri Feb 01, 2019 12:31 am

They closed both hubs in 2002(STL) and 2003(SJC).
I can’t find much info on the internet.

STL: AA flew STL-LGW for a few years after the merger with TW.
SJC: AA flew SJC-NRT until 2006. AA also started SJC-CDG and TPE in 2001 but it ended right after 9/11.

Did AA fly long haul (...) to SJC?

Yes, to/from NRT, with DC-10-30s and later MD-11s.

STL had flights to Paris (besides LGW) also. I think one other place but I can't remember what it was.

I flew LGW-STL on a TWA 747 one year to the day prior to flight 800 going down. I even have a picture of the plane looking at the nose but can’t make out the tail number. From what I remember of my research, TWA only had 8 of the type flying. Pretty solid odds I was on the same jet one year earlier.

Did they still operate the MD-11 in 2006?

And 777s, right up until the end.

No. Those got phased out in 2001, I believe. It was 772 after that.

Yes, NRT and TPE were 777s. CDG was a 767-300ER.

Much earlier, but AA flew STL-HNL (with 707) from 1970 until (IIRC) 1977.

AA also flew STL-HNL after the takeover of TW. Not international but certainly longhaul in terms of distance and flight time.

STL-FRA was scheduled to (re)start in the spring of 2001 by TWA but was never started by AA.
TWA had operated STL-FRA at different times in the 80s and 90s but never year-round nor on a consistent basis.
TWA also operated STL-OGG in the final few years.

AA also flew STL-OGG after the TW takeover. They eventually moved it to ORD-OGG.
