Air Canada A320 cabin

Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:31 am

flew C-GKOD YOM2002 recently and loved the cabin how neat it was. Clean, spacious, comfy, up-to-date with Wi-Fi and IFE system better than some airlines longhaul product. Still didn't get the new paint though, but the interior job is no joke. Wonder how many retrofit did this and the others get since under AC?

The Air Canada interior is lovely I agree. This interior was the XM (Extreme Makeover) interior that dates from 2006. The whole fleet (except the A340, and the B767-200 which were retired) was gradually retrofitted and new aircraft delivered with this excellent interior (the narrowbody business class seat you have pictured here and a herringbone flat seat on the widebody fleet) I am glad you enjoyed. Ghis remains my favourite interior of AC planes today.

This interior is the past. It is on its way out along with the 319's and 320's. The future of AC are slim line seats in Y with 30" seat pitch. The AC forum members at FT are calling the old interior the Y luxury.

Technically Rouge has IFE too. It's just BYOA with a possibility to rent an I pad with free I pad rent in Premium Rouge.

Personally, this is by far the best interior of any major North American carrier.

The cabin feels spacious, bright, clean and very comfortable. That blue/purple hue of the seats are very easy on the eyes. It makes the cabin feel bright and spacious during the day but then cozy during the evening/at night. I will very much miss this cabin interior. I flew on the A320s countless times with AC and it was always a pleasure. This interior was also featured on their 77Ls when I flew YVR-SYD-YVR which was, again, a very pleasant experience.

I don't have any of my own. However, this article contains some MAX interior photos.

You can find some WB cabin pictures in the a-net database too.

Ten years ago I loved this cabin but recent travels on AC's A320s I felt different. They looked very tired and worn, the first gen IFE was slow and unresponsive many times, the side panels were yellowed and the seals around the emergency exits were also yellowed. I do LOVE the thick padding on the seats, however, very comfy and something we'll not likely see again

Wow those all look fantastic, especially the premium economy seats.

Glad to see that AC is gonna stay the best North American carrier by the looks of things,

I actually find that the Airbus interiors on AC look quite dated. Yellow lighting, beige plastic and scratched up unresponsive screens aren’t what I would call world-class. Their long-haul interiors on the other hand feel quite nice and modern.

It's very inconsistent... some look factory fresh and some look like they went through a tornado and pretty much everything in between from what I've seen in the last 3 years or so... XM is nice but it doesn't age well?

As you know, Air Canada is adding more A321s and A320s to its fleet this year. It will be interesting to see what interiors are installed.

A change in plans a few years ago, showed that the A320s and A321s are staying longer. The new generation of narrow body aircraft at Air Canada will have what is shown above on the 737 Max. That was the plan all along ... replace the E190s and A320 series aircraft with A220s and 737 Maxs. Now that the A320 series aircraft are staying longer, will they too receive the new interior?

While the new slimline seats look very cool, they are not as comfortable as the old A320 seats. But ... the new Panasonic AVOD is a generation or two ahead of the old Thales AVOD of the A320s. I guess it depends on what is more important to some people. For me, I'd take the old comfortable seats and be patient with the IFE.

But, I agree with the above sentiment. The old XM interior, while ground breaking in 2005, is dated today. But still, we long forget that in 2005, it was unheard of for any airline to have AVOD on every narrow body domestic aircraft ... right down to the E175/190 and CRJ 705s!

I also like the A320 cabin/seats vs. the new B737MAX.

Just flew from HNL to YEG via YVR yesterday. While the cabin on the 737 Max (HNL-YVR) looks much more spacious and the IFE is great, the seats were not as comfortable as the seats on the A319 (YVR-YEG). I agree with another comment about the cabin lights on the Airbus fleet. Our outbound A319 had bright new lights. The one coming back had yellowing light panels. The A319 was also quieter.

About to board a max as we speak... not at excited for it. I actually prefer the competition’s max configuration to AC. Yes the IFE is great but an A320/21N would be no different if it were replacing the current 320s. I try to avoid the max as best as I can but today anything that gets me out of an airport works.

The A320s are to replace the (early, light, almost cycle expired) A320s which are leaving mainline. Other than rumour, there has been nothing official announced about the A321s.

I always look forward to flying on an AC A320 series, E-Jet or 767. Don't really have high expectations for anything else in the fleet. Too bad they don't fly the 767 to ICN anymore.

So I guess MSN 59 will be gone soon. That aircraft joined the fleet on January 19, 1990. Pretty good lifetime for a "disposable" aircraft.
