On Thursday, Air Senegal took delivery of the first of two A330-900neo aircraft which will be deployed on their new DSS-CDG route. Due to delivery delays, the route will be operated a Hifly A340 for the month of February. The aircraft is configured with 32 Business, 21 Premium Economy and 237 Economy seats. It is the first aircraft to feature Stelia Aerospace's new Opal Business Class seat, which will be also introduced as SQ's new regional business seat. Additionally the airline has expressed interest in flying to JFK, LON, DXB, and GRU in the future, when the second A330neo arrives.

Those premium economy seats look really comfortable.

If they really want to be a well run airlines with profitability, they should have chosen a few leased A321neo instead of a large wide-body though.

This! The 321neo seems like the perfect plane for this type of small flag carrier, especially given the geographic location of DSS. They could easily do CDG and probably could even do YUL/JFK if they wanted. It's much more likely to be viable both because the cost per flight would be lower, and because the airline could maintain a single jet type for both their local and long-haul needs and not need the complexity of a separate group of pilots/maintenance for a tiny widebody subfleet.

They’ve not taken delivery of it yet it’s just a demonstration event. You can see on the picture it’s still got the Airbus reg applied.

Going up against an AF 77W daily on the same route with connections to every point on the globe. I am sure the demand is there, but I can’t imagine Air Senegal getting the premium traffic even with a significant revenue discount.

Ok back to topic, it could be good if they can launch and combine FCO/MIL with MAD/BCN to reach the diaspora.

This was very under the radar, it seems. Beautiful bird. Great interior as well. World class.

Very nice airplane and interior and I wish them well!!!! Can the A321NEO do Senegal to JFK/YUL nonstop without penalties? The A321NEO sounds a bit too small for such a route in my opinion but that is just my opinion.

Several versions ago, Air Senegal flew to some of those destinations with a 73G, and failed. How is a 339 going to make it better?

EK struggles in DKR/DSS with the world behind its DXB hub; DL has been flying JFK for years and can only manage 2 weekly 757s. ET and KQ don't even fly nonstop to their hubs. Where are these 290 seat planes going to fly....profitably?

Dare I say in the current environment, it's difficult for airlines to be sustainable with small fleets. The economies of scale required certainly exceed the 7 aircraft they currently have or have on order. This problem gets exponentially magnified with wide bodies given their relatively higher ownership and trip costs.

Not easily, and depends very much on the config. Very limited, if any cargo capability. Right at the limits.
