Status of Bahamasair IAH-NAS

Mon Feb 04, 2019 4:58 pm

I couldn't find any related topic in here ..so posting this question.
Flightaware shows last three flights BHS842 cancelled. The inbound flight BHS841 isn't showing on the system either. Can someone tell me if there is anything more to this .....I am planning on flying this next month and already getting worried. Your comments will be helpful
Thanks

WN could add HOU-NAS nonstop service since (a) HOU is one of the major international gateways for WN, (b) NAS is one of the few WN international destinations that isn't currently served nonstop from HOU, (c) WN would have connecting feed on the HOU side in addition to O&D to support HOU-NAS nonstop service, and (d) WN has much stronger brand recognition in the U.S. than UP does.

I could see HOU-NAS. Currently they fly nonstop from NAS to BWI and FLL. I think NAS would be a great place for them to extend to some of their other stations, HOU included. However, I wonder if DAL would come before HOU since DAL curently has more connecting opportunities than HOU does.

Now to the OP's question,

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/BHS ... /KIAH/MYNN

Very odd to have three flights in a row cancelled on this route. I could only think that this might be due to their somewhat limited fleet, and there could be some mechanical/technical issues right now. Are there any other Bahamasair routes that are being consistently cancelled like this one is?

Both the Wright Amendment Reform Act of 2006 and the 5-party agreement prohibit nonstop international flights out of DAL. In addition, the passenger terminal at DAL was designed to handle only domestic flights.

While I agree that DAL has more domestic connecting opportunities than HOU does, I do not expect WN to ever add any nonstop international flights out of DAL anytime soon.

Ah, that's right... I forgot about the Wright Amendment... ;)

The flight with the 735 ran but the three flights with the 732 were cancelled. Likely related to that equipment. I had no idea they still had 732's.

Since NAS is a pre-clearance airport, does it make flight to DAL possible? Not sure how the WA deals with pre-clearance stations. Back to the original question, the aircraft (735) is grounded (not sure for how long) and passengers are being rebooked through MIA/FLL. Not sure how long NP can run the show with 2 or 3 birds operating and creates a chaos when 1 (or more) goes tech. Time for WN to start HOU-NAS. The loads have been great for NP and sure WN can easily fill with a much better product.....common...show some luv!

Yeah, it can't be a 732. All are stored.

UP is having a lot of trouble in the last month with fleet. December saw multiple flights cancelled or severely delayed due to this issue. My guess is that UP feels IAH is expendable if they don't have full capacity and instead are choosing to allocate the aircraft to other routes where there is more need.

Thanks for the update - can't remember seeing 732 of late. I've tried talking to folks at NAS and no one seems to say what the situation is about the grounded aircraft. Hopefully it should be back in service soon.

UP did not have fleet issues in December. ATC were on a "go slow" due to wages dispute for over a week. This resulted in many delayed flights for every airline. UP got backed up because if the flight was scheduled for 12noon; atc did not release the flight until sometimes 6 or 7 hours later. Those delays are what compounded the jets scheduled maintenance. They shifted the blame to weather/airport equipment failure, but the actual truth is the initial problem was created by air traffic control and the govt, over wages.

WN adding HOU-NAS nonstop service would provide an alternative way for travelers to get back to HOU if UP is having a problem at NAS and if passengers are stranded at NAS.

Maybe they should add HOU-IST then. You know, TK cancels every now and then.

Even though NAS has US Pre-
Clearance the legal agreements concerning DAL prevent them from doing any international from DAL.

To the OP: I wonder if one or more of their planes got stuck in the Polar Vortex weather in the Eastern US last week and didn't make it back to NAS. Then there wouldn't be the equipment to fly to IAH. Keep checking this week, it may fix itself.

I would assume the WN chatter is due to the flight being HOU-NAS. So there is some sense in it's mention, but does anyone know what happened to the planes from Bahamasair?

Unfortunately, UP doesn't serve any of the northeast USA destinations. Chicago hasn't been flown recently either - so, I don't buy the theory of polar vortex. Must be some major tech issue. Routine checkups doesn't take too long. Not sure what's going on...

UP now has only the Saturday IAH-NAS flight scheduled until 11 March. Anyone who is worried should consider UA which will be using its own metal plus those of Mesa Airlines.

Interesting. On their website I was able to find Thu / Sun flights from Feb 21 available for booking. No updates on their facebook page or newsfeed (if any).

Thanks...interesting to see how fast they (UP) can get back on track. Do you have access to see the schedules from NAS-IAH leg. Usually the Sunday flight RON's and Monday morning isn't much of an issue for departures. The delays are usually caused at NAS.

Bahamasair is a mess. If one aircraft goes out unscheduled flights will be delayed by hours or even cancelled. They are very well known for delays after delays after delays. I flew them last May. First flight was delayed due to weather about 90-mins. Ok not their fault. Flight back was delayed due to an aircraft being stuck in IAH. Ended up with a 7-hour delay and changed my flight to FLL instead of MIA.

They desperately need that NG for a more reliable airplane and more flee capacity. I flew on two of their three 737-500 aircraft. One was a former AR bird, it was in pretty bad condition on the inside. Seats hard as a rock, I could not be comfortable for a 30-min flight I could not imagine it on a flight to IAH. The other was a former ANA bird I think. It was pretty comfortable. Lots of leg room, well padded and good condition seats. That I would have no issue on.

Avoid row 6 or 7, forgot which one it is, as it has no window.

They are an interesting airline, with their problems, including having no idea how long their own delays are. Also flight aware is a mess with them. Flight aware will show multiple flights, on the wrong airplane, they don't have any more 732s. When I was flying to NAS flight aware showed that my flight left and was landing in NAS before we even begun to board.

That being said, they have a strong safety record, I would not hesitate flying them so long as you expect a delay.

So, this morning both BHS841/842 were loaded on the system. I am not seeing them anymore - I guess another cancellation? I don't see the Sun/Mon flights either this week. Not sure if anyone knows when the flights will be resuming...

Must be.

Flightaware shows BHS841: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/BHS841

But it was supposed to take off more than three hours ago... BHS842 will likely be the same.

It's a shame that they can't seem to get their fleet operating properly...

You are right: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/BHS841
Both 841/842 were cancelled today and I don't see anything scheduled for this coming week at least. Are the affected passengers rebooked to UA? Since UP doesn't codeshare with anyone, I am not sure how they handle so many cancellations. Interestingly, IAH route is probably most advertised of all and they did a lot of PR. Will see if 841 flies back on 17th at least (that's the latest I can see loaded in their system - unless I am missing something).

Is there any update on C6-BFX? Still shows ANC at flightradar. Anyhow, back to the topic, UP 841 is still yet to be flown for almost two months now. That's a lot of rebooking / refunds depending on the situation. Will see if things turn around on Sunday.

I wonder if UP has sights on either ATL/BOS. Both large markets, although they may fear DL who enjoys ATL all to itself.

If your source is Flightaware, you'll be quite disappointed. BFX barely had time to clear customs or be locally inspected.

That is sad. I don't know why all the systems show 732 when they don't have one. UP 841 shows scheduled for this evening - not sure if it will make it if they still have aircraft issues. Will wait to see in a few hours...

Good news - UP 841 is on its way to IAH after a long gap. It's not with the new bird, but - at least happy to see the route return to service!

On one of enilria's OAG threads UP did load BOS-NAS but nothing was ever announced.
I personally think UP should at least interline with B6 for feed from BOS/JFK/FLL/MCO/DCA.
Airlines flown: A3, AA, AC, AF, AM, BA, B6, CA, CO, CX, DL, EA, EL, IB, LH, MI, MQ, NH, NW, NZ, OU, PE, QF, S4, SQ, TP, UA, US, VS, WE, WN

2019: CX BOS-HKG, WE HKG-HKT, CA HKT-PEK-EWR, B6 EWR-BOS
