Concorde's 'droop nose' will power up again

Fri Feb 08, 2019 12:38 pm

Concorde's 'droop nose' will rise again for the plane's 50th anniversary

CNN) — Fifteen years after it last flew, supersonic airplane Concorde's distinctive drooping nose is back in action.

Conservators and volunteers, are now working to reactivate the feature. If all goes to plan, the nose will be functional by April 9, 2019, the 50th anniversary of Concorde's first British flight.

Now if they could only get the rest of the Aircraft back in action ...

It's nice that another Concorde is receiving some TLC, but the droop nose has been in action for a while at the Brooklands Concorde as far as I know.

Brooklands also rescued and rebuilt the simulator! If anyone has the means to get to Brooklands and book time in the sim, I can't recommend it enough. Flying the checkerboard approach at Kai Tak alongside a retired Concorde pilot was really something special.

Don't know if anybody remembers this emotional video from YouTube or the story behind it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA5eYdwC8o4

Apparently, after the 2000 crash, F-BVFC was stranded at JFK for 2 months because the Concorde's Airworthiness certificate was withdrawn while it was still in New York. French authorities gave the plane a temporary certificate so AF could fly the plane home. A team of 12 techs was in NY for almost 2 weeks to get the plane ready to go, and the plane eventually landed in Paris to an emotional welcome from AF ground crew and Concorde fans. Such a sad story and video.
