Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:57 pm

Don't know if it has been discussed before,

What are your thoughts, you think it has anything to do with safety,

Solely a commercial decision on the part of AC. They are stream lining their express/regional services. If I'm not mistaken, they dropped EVAS and the B1900s awhile back and more recently axed all B1900 flying East of Alberta.

The pilots at Georgian are the real winners here. They are eligible to keep their DOH and seniority if they move over to Jazz. That is a pretty remarkable deal on the part of the company and the union.

Evas is still flying regional services out of YHZ.

It’s a smart win-win. Jazz gets a bunch of pilots with CRJ type ratings and experience operating them in a network broadly similar to Jazz’s.

The problem with Georgian’s jet network is and has been the hard product. These are on the whole decently big, high-yielding, monopoly markets and are likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.

The big winner here is Jazz. Getting a secure contract for the next 15 years is a huge win for the company. AC only gets some savings over the next 2-3 years.

No guarantee that the GGN pilots will fly them... any GGN pilot coming over must rebid for a new vacant position.

and YYT. In fact all of the DH1s/DH3s are gone from YHZ too as of May 1st. YQY dropping down to 2 Q400s per day with a terrible schedule is the real shocker.

Does Canada have the pilot shortage issue that seems to be plaging the US?
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.

Starting to but not quite to the same crisis levels as the 1,500 hours rule isn’t in Canada.

That’s quite the drop for sure to YQY.

I wonder what the long term plan is for regional flying in Atlantic Canada? Do the YHZ to YQM YSJ and YFC routes eventually go away once the B1900’s are gone or do they go to once daily Q400s?

Chorus and Jazz? What is this thread about? John Scofield and Mike Stern Records from the 90’s?

Doubtful the routes will survive, Q400s will be mostly out west mostly flying the classic routes out of YYC/YVR and they’re getting rid of the Sky Regional fins along with the Republic ones. Not sure if there’ll be enough to cover all the maritime flying. Some of the “busier” routes may see the DH3.

I’d imagine if (as there’s no indication of that happening yet) the EVAS flying will eventually go away that the YHZ-YYG/YQM/YSJ/YFC routes that are typically 4x daily each would go to 2x DH3s. Other than YQM, AC would have a decent amount of O&D on these routes as they’re 4-5 hour drives each...at AC monopoly pricing (probably why YQY with WS competition is all Q400 this summer x surprising a BEH or two wasn’t squeezed in there). If that were to happen, you’d probably see the EVAS intra-NFLD/Labrador routes also go DH3. Won’t the DH3 life extension program give the a good 20 more years of flying?

I think more to 10-15 yrs is what they’re planning for the -311s. That’s when the new “whatever they are“ fleet is supposed to arrive at Jazz.
