Emirates, Airbus, Qatar paid $38M to Indian lobbyist

$12M is suspected to be given to Indian politicians as bribes for tweaking India's aviation policy. It has always been an open secret that the ME airlines bribed their way to access the Indian market. I wonder how many A380s would Emirates have bought if their bribing tactics would have failed.

I'm not sure why number of A380s is a relevant metric.

If so, why is Airbus paying into the pot if it hurts their chances to sell more A380s?

It does seem EK was the most aggressive, though:

The heart has its beaches, its homeland and thoughts of its own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
The heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own

I would imagine with Emirates gaining more market share in India would mean more sales for Airbus, that is possibly the only relation I can make.
