No doubt, but those are two different planes (A339/B77X) for vastly different missions. If airlines went 3-3-3 (fantasy) on the 777 your choice may be different.

Nope, been there and done that. Most of my longhaul flights are with missus and we like the 2 seating in Y. So we love the “oldies” A330/A340 and B767.

Sorry, but Airbus hardly updated the A330Neo interior. The cabin still has the look of a plane built in the early 2000s.
On the contrary, Boeing updated for sure the 777X interior.

So yes, from a passenger point of view, this is a downgrade.

Boeing's 777-9 aircraft has inconvenient, 3+4+3 row layout. A330Neo offers more accessible and more comfortable 2+4+2.

So no, from passenger point of view, this is an upgrade. Especially in comparison to the "comfort" - or lack thereof - the 787 offers.
Tarriffs are taxes. Taxation is theft. You are not entitled to anything.
If it's a Boeing, I'm not going.

The 'oldish' A330neo that's only just entered service? Along with the 'oldish' 777X yet to do so?

EK clearly not considering it a downgrade.

Fo shizz! That's why my BFF plane as a passenger is the 767, for the 2-3-2.

A complete basic cabin update is part of the NEO program (Airspace).
So you should maybe explain your point in detail, so that anybody else is not thinking you are just writing fanboy nonsense.

:checkmark: Shame that they're so rare nowadays. Also a shame that the 767's overhead bins are straight out of the 1980s.
First to fly the 787-9

Because Boeing increase the internal cabin width of B777X. None of the airlines would go with 3-3-3 anymore.

Again, 2-4-2 anyday over 3-3-3 or 3-4-3.

The A330-900 are scheduled to enter service in 2021 and the A350-900s in 2024.

Emirates will likely be the initial delivery customer for the 777-9 and if so, the first frames would be scheduled to arrive in their fleets in 2020.

I think that joy will go to the launch customer - LH. Unless things have changed.
Plane mad!

Good for you. I wouldn't. I care about more than how many seats are at the windows, and if I have finger more - or less - width.

And why is this only about Y? Up front, the A330 is an objective downgrade. It's disappointing from a passenger perspective to see EK go that route.

EK's current J seat on the A380 is upstairs, roughly equivalent width to the A330, and I'd argue the A380 seat at 1-2-1 is far superior to the 777 seat at 2-3-2. Not hard to imagine that seats coming off retiring A380s will get refreshed and put in the A330, in which case the A330 would also have a superior J product to the 777.

The cabin update is just too modest: you can’t compare the cabin of an A330Neo cabin with an A350 or 787 cabin.
Just look at the size of the windows...
Be objective.

Hey here's an idea. Maybe lets wait the however many years until EK introduces all these new planes until we judge what they put into them. Fact is that from a passenger standpoint an airline is gonna have the same pitch in all aircraft performing the same mission in Y, and in that case 18'' is better than 17.2 or 17.4. Sure in J it's a tad less wide but if you're complaining about that you're way too entitled to fly commercial. Either way it's not bad for the average-sized person though. All the comfort whining from crybabies is pointless, unfounded and unreasonable but hey.

It seems more logical to put a long-haul hard product into another long-haul frame and they would go to the 777s.

In what world is the A330neo not a long-haul frame? They’ve said themselves it’s going to be used to optimise seasonal demand and open up new routes, they never said it was going to be used for short haul.
