YUL-LGA upgrading to A-320 on May 1

Thu Feb 14, 2019 8:27 pm

I was surprised to note in the latest AC schedule that 3 of the 8 daily YUL-LGA flights will be upgraded to Air Canada A-320 from Skyservice E-75 equipment as of May 1'19. I fly this route often and don't ever remember mainline since the DC-9 days way back when (eighties?). Skyservice will continue with 5 daily E-75's.

Well back in the day the E75s were mainline. But yeah that's quite the upgauge. You'd think the next step would be E90s or 319s.

It must be for the summer only. Is it maybe because LGA has finally been upgrade/renovated? The AC section of LGA was a disaster the last time I flew there about a year ago. It seriously looked like a scene from circa 1962.

My guess is that it's summer only, but with AC receiving their A220's next year, I'm gonna guess that we'll see those old mainline numbers back in service year round.

Doubt it's because of the upgrade, although the AC section at LGA is much, much nicer than it used to be. It's still a little bit crowded when a bunch of flights are leaving at the same time, but it's nothing like it was before. There are also a lot more food and drink options, and the lounge is bigger.

The YYZ flights used to be mostly E90s and they've been pretty much all 320s since last year. At this point, many of the 737s have arrived and all of the 320s are still in the fleet, while a bunch of the E90s have left. Effectively, for now, the 737s have replaced the E90s. That is naturally producing a lot of upgauging. As the Cseries planes arrive, I think LGA will definitely be seeing them.

There have been some E90s (mainline) in there off and on for the last few years as well, but yes the upgrade to the A320 is quite a nice upgauge.

This is a great addition for Montreal, which is really reclaiming its place as top-tier city. The economy has been booming, as has tourism. Nice to see.

Also AC's terminal situation at LGA is so much improved. I don't think that was a huge factor in the upgauge, but it is just worth noting how dramatically different that experience is now.
