Ryanair Aircraft Rotation

Sat Feb 16, 2019 7:46 am

Hi,

Looking at Flightradar24 Ryanair rotate their aircraft around their bases frequently, usually once a week the aircraft flies out of one base as a routine pax flight and then flies from there, again as a routine flight to a different base. It is then based there for a week or so and then moves to another base.

Does anyone no why they do this!? Is it for maintenance? How do the crew relocate?

Tui also do this but to a lesser extent.

Many thanks - just something I’ve wondered about for a while!

I doubt the crew would relocate as the crew are base specific whereas the aircraft aren't?

The crew just switch aircraft. Very often in the evening they return home on another aircraft than they left with in the morning, that's one of the benefits of having a fleet that consists of only one type of aircraft.

Although we call everywhere with a night stopover for airlines Ryanair "BASES", those aren't 100% facilities with all the spares and techs needed to monitor, backup or fix the fleet. That's why not only Ryanair, but I'd say all multiple-bases airlines do this. Like Patrick said, the crew just switch aircrafts in one airport so they get the "new" one from Stansted/Dublin or anywhere else where Ryanair has done a tick on the maintenance, and they leave to a STN/DUB crew the "old" one ready to be taken to main base.
