WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares departures for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...prior year departures are now shown in brackets e.g. [0].

HOW DO I READ IT?

XXX Departure IATA code, YYY Arrival IATA code, Month, Average Departures/Day over the month for sale as of last week, Average Departures/Day over the month for sale as of this week, in brackets is the number of Average Departures/Day over the month that were scheduled one year earlier. So, it means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. It also means that there were 4 roundtrips the prior year in each month. No other months were changed. I average two directions.

WHAT ABOUT CARRIERS THAT DON'T PUBLISH A SCHEDULE 9 MONTHS IN ADVANCE?
NEW CHANGE-Sometimes airlines do not load their schedules for the entire 330 day standard sales window. Southwest and many LCCs load their schedules for as little as 5 months into the future. When these flight are extended into a new sales month, it becomes a "schedule change". Previously, I have manually deleted these in many cases and replaced them with a Year-Over-Year compare. Effective immediately, this will now change. When a flight is loaded from 0 departures X departures, where X was the same the prior year, the record will not be shown. For example, if Delta loaded ATL-EGE MAR 0>1(1), it would not be shown because this additional flight does not represent a real year-over-year addition. Similarly, if B6 extended their schedule a record like this ATL-BOS JUL 0>4(4) would not be shown. It will be shown if the flight frequency changed from the prior year. So B6 ATL-BOS JUL 0>3(4) would be shown. If a partial month was loaded in a core schedule that became a full schedule month, those changes may be shown under this logic. For example, WN BNA-SEA 0.3>2(2). Because only a fraction of the month was previously loaded for sale, these changes will not be filtered out. I may, however, manually remove them to declutter.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month. The following criteria are used to show a change: 1) The change must be at least 6 roundtrips per month with no exceptions, 2) changes of at least 6/week are always shown, 3) routes that are added or dropped are shown subject to the change minimum, and 4) in all other cases routes must change by 20% to be shown. For example, if a route changed from 21/week to 18/week it would not be shown because the change is -14.3%. This is done to filter minor changes that occur in large numbers.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Flights that do not operate every day of the month create fractional service. If the route has more than 2 daily flights, departures are rounded, but in cases of less than 2 departures per day a fraction is shown. For example, if a flight operates 4 times in April it will show 4/30=0.133=0.1. Also , a flight that only operates once per week may vary between 0.1 and 0.2 because a weekday may repeat either 4 or 5 times depending on the month.

This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
Seats are not shown. That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ERROR?
The carriers file the schedules. They do make mistakes. Most of the mistakes I have seen are either related to code shares not being marked as "duplicates" or carriers filing flights with invalid data such as equipment codes that are not standard or overlapping schedule periods that see the same flight number in two places at once. These cause flights to not appear.

It’s great to see that American is stretching seasonal DFW to SRQ starting in October, but where is the ORD flight!!! Will it be back in December then? As with some SRQ flights they start out as seasonal and then get stretched longer until they are year round. I was hoping both of those would become year round.

DL hasnt reported, but the SRQ-DTW route only takes a hiatus from the end of August until mid October before picking back up. Still once weekly and goes daily for a few weeks in December.
...the carriage of liquids, gels, and aerosols are prohibited through the screening checkpoint except for travel size toiletries of 3 ounces or less...

For those not familiar Ultimate Air Shuttle mostly runs their markets with a single morning trip from Cincinnati (LUK) to an outstation, where the plane sits all day until returning back to Cincinnati in the evening. What they are doing here is that the planes which currently do LUK-CLT and LUK-PDK will do LUK-CLT-PDK and LUK-PDK-CLT. In the afternoon they are adding CLT-PDK-CLT on the front of the existing CLT-LUK trip. So Charlotte-Peachtree Dekalb gets a morning and mid-afternoon trip both directions.

It will be interesting to see if Ultimate can find a market here. They run our of the FBO without TSA catering to business travelers.

Disappointing to see, thought Southern's unsubsidized PIT-MDT-PIT attempt only averaged a couple of people per flight, and it doesn't seem AVP did much differently. They have struggled to get traction most anyplace outside of EAS routes. However they recently bought Mokulele and also added some intra-Florida flying with promised Tampa-Jacksonville and Memphis-Atlanta (likely PDK) service promised for 2019.

Looking at BA.com it appears this route is gone for most of September and October and is back to 3x a week in November. Appears a seasonal pull down. Might also coincide with runway work at FLL.

Now that SYR has UA on SYR-DEN, it just needs to see AA add DFW and MIA non-stop, and I won't have anything else left to want for (that's realistic, anyway).

Appreciate the post as always, Enilria.

Nice to see that NK has extended MSY to PHL and CMH into the fall, those were announced as seasonal. Looks like NK is cutting a lot of Tuesday/Wednesday flying in the should period, especially with new and leisure markets.

Also nice to see AS bringing the second SEA flight back in the fall. Previously was only for Mardi Gras and spring.

I live about 10 minutes (by car) from PDK and I thought commercial service wasn’t allowed. I know the neighborhoods around PDK are against it. I wonder how the community will respond to this.

Probably could get people from eastern side of the Cleveland-Akron/Canton metro region if the flights are cheap enough and they advertise in the area

BUR-PDX is going from two E175 and one mainline to two mainline. BOI-PDX isn’t really a change. They added a flight only a couple weeks ago and appear to have now made that add summer seasonal.

It's a public charter, so it essentially functions like commercial service, but is technically a charter. They have been operating LUK-PDK for years and there have been no issues.

I wonder if this finally pushes Delta to start GSP-MSP again to stay competitive to the Mountain West and West Coast; Delta did this in Charleston after United announced service to Denver.

UA also added DEN-PNS/SAV/BTV as weekend only services (Sat/Sun). I guess that’s not enough frequency for your filters.

I believe this data is actually captured a few days in advance, and since these routes were just announced they may not have been entered into OAG yet.

DTW-SRQ shouldn't even be less than daily year round. Good to see the AC add at Detroit perhaps WS can take a page from the AC playbook and add DTW.

Good to see AS back up to 3x daily on YEGSEA. Now that DL left I was hoping they would go back to the 3x daily and be able to sustain it. The YLW route going down to 1x is interesting. I always thought this was at least 2x to make the connections and business traffic work.

Disappointing to see, thought Southern's unsubsidized PIT-MDT-PIT attempt only averaged a couple of people per flight, and it doesn't seem AVP did much differently. They have struggled to get traction most anyplace outside of EAS routes. However they recently bought Mokulele and also added some intra-Florida flying with promised Tampa-Jacksonville and Memphis-Atlanta (likely PDK) service promised for 2019.

The'll probably need an AA code to do any real damage.

JFK is losing another LCC to EWR in the form of XL Airways to France. They also lost Sun Country to EWR recently.
Virgin America disappeared leaving Norwegian as an ULCC and jetBlue as a sort of LCC and Level with service to BCN.

I wonder if Level will consolidate its EWR and JFK operations the DY seems to be going. Perhaps they can coexist better with one located at each.

Yet, the fare level at JFK is still better than EWR. Funny what happens when there is no fortress hub carrier around.

The BTV route was actually announced a month ago as a 1x weekly, then upgraded to 2x Weekly with the announcement from PWM, SYR, etc.

PWM is also only a 2x weekly, so strange the report would pick up that, but not the others.

Probably due to the proximity of DTW to YYZ, AC doesn’t see a problem touting pax via YYZ.

I wonder if this is the Port Authority's doing. I get the impression they are trying to move airlines out of JFK. To SWF or even EWR might be better to them than JFK. Not sure if it is related to temporary facilities constraints or a long term plan.
