I see it but don't see anything special about. The Emirates body should be in there somewhere but who knows... They are the LC as far as I know.

You'd think LH would have learned its lesson after the 748 debacle that they shouldn't take the first frame off the line...

Why does Boeing (and Airbus?) produce customer AC so fast after test AC? You'd think they'd have to work the bugs out of the test AC before wanting to start on customer AC...

Remember LN 1435 of the B748 line...

LH probably got a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, attractive deal from Boeing to be the launch customer of the 777X in Europe.... :) :) :) :) :) :)

I recall Boeing saying that they will try to make the 777-8/9 cabin a few inches wider by making the insulation thinner. Were they actually able to do that, or is it still the same 16" seats in 3-4-3 economy?

What airline has 16” seats in a 777? Seat guru is showing 17” seats in a UA 10 ab 777, so which airline has smaller seats?

No 16" seats (that is reserved for 10Y A350s). 10Y 777s have 17" or 17.2" seats depending on carrier (and aisle width). 10Y 777X can accommodate 18" seats with narrow aisles.

Yes, there are pictures in the web showing how they reduced the height of the frames around the window belt area to get a couple of inches on each side.

https://twitter.com/boeingairplanes/sta ... 4138847233

This was done in conjunction with thicker skin at the window belt because of the larger windows.

A factor with the 748i #1437 debacle is that Lufthansa had second thoughts about the 748i and just used an excuse to take one frame less. This time it, oh wait...

Keeping the flight test certification program to a reasonable time frame (about a year), requires flying/testing multiple airplanes. Since each test airplane represents a significant cost, they are earmarked for a customer. Even the first airplane, typically retained by Boeing, is now sold to a customer. The #1 777 was sold to CX.

The 787 initial airplanes were a fiasco that hopefully won't be repeated.

You are training a production line. You can’t build three and go home for 6 months.

Training and building. The people and their skills are absolutely essential, and those skills take time to hone on each new product, but it's also progressive process of implementing all the physical components of the assembly line, and getting them working well together. An assembly line is a complicated, engineered system just like an aircraft is. It is just less fundamentally cohesive than an aircraft. You could think of it as the assembly line going through testing and design improvements at the same time the aircraft is.

And by continuing to build airframes, even though they will likely need some level of changes retrofit based on the test program, and may involve some price concessions to cover changes that can not be reasonably retrofit, you can ramp up deliveries much more quickly.

That means better meeting the customer schedules, which potentially means more total sales. It also means revenue starts coming in sooner, which not only looks good on the near term financial reports, but a dollar now also has a higher net present value than a dollar later, which helps offset the cost of the retrofits.

Of course, it can turn out for the worse if they have to make too many design changes as a result of testing. That's a calculated risk.

When LH received their first A380, they flew them on existing services to both LHR and CDG in place of the usual A320 Family. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case for the B779...

Seems to be more the norm than the exception in recent all-new airframe programs. Airbus only sold one of the first four A380s, and the first 25 were substandard (wiring). And the one that got sold was in service only a decade and was the first A380 to be scrapped. Boeing didn't sell the first five 787s, and the first 19 were substandard (low MTOW + badly overweight). Airbus didn't sell the first four A350s, although it seems that frames 6 and up were reasonably mature.

But derivatives are different, and I think the rejection of 747-8 LN 1435 was highly unusual. I don't expect any 777X frames to go unsold.

No but the current model does 17" seats 10x with 16.5" isles unless they reduce the armrest to a thinner size.

No 16" seats (that is reserved for 10Y A350s). 10Y 777s have 17" or 17.2" seats depending on carrier (and aisle width). 10Y 777X can accommodate 18" seats with narrow aisles.

Sort of disingenuous of Boeing to be touting an extra 0.8-1 inch of width per seat when the new cabin is only 4 inches wider than the current 777. Am I missing something, or should we just get used to paper-thin armrests and 14 inch aisles?

Yes but Boeing is counting seat space below the armrest edges to get 18". Airbus is counting the space between the armrest.Same on the old 59" seat set that used to be 17" seat but are now 17.2" to 17.4" as they count the space under the armrest now.

Something about the 777-9 looks so much more graceful than the -300 and -200 series. I can't put my finger on what it is.

Depending on how one sees it, Airbus actually managed to sell two of first four A380.
MSN 001 Airbus keeping this for future test.
MSN 002 It was supposed to go to Kingdom Holdings, but it was cancelled as Saudi Government placed its owner Prince Al-waleed under house(palace) arrest.
MSN 003 SQ got it, now retired.
MSN 004 Unwanted airframe, went to museum.
MSN 005 SQ got it, now retired.

The A380 debacle made SQ allergic to be launch customer.

Did Boeing and Airbus actively seek buyer for first 5/6 B787 and A350 respectively? I could be wrong. I was under impression they are keeping all those frames for airshows, future testing and museum at later date.

Btw, the B777-9X is to be a sight to behold! Can't wait to see it in real life!
