AA NYC & LAX passengers Helo service

Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:43 am

Wonder how fruitful of an endeavor this will be for AA. Seems like low risk.

IIRC, PA and TW used heliocopters in New York City and San Francisco. There is one in the background of the final scenes of "What's Up Doc?" starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neil.

Some people like elected officials and Kardashian clan people and Lady Gaga and such could probably find it useful. The rest of us would probably show up three hours early like normal.
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

Honestly I could see it being quite useful for some business type who can squeeze in a meeting in Manhattan and one in LA in the same business day now because of the huge time savings avoiding traffic. And apparently the ride is $195 per person plus AA’s fee for Concierge service. Not really unreasonable at all if your time is valuable.

Looks like you’ll still have to clear security at LAX or JFK... that probably decreases its usefulness.

its probably a sectioned off private area of pre-check or they are escorted through pre-check like the FF customers at JFK/LAX/SFO

Been tried over and over and over and always promises the same things, yet has yet to prove viable long term.
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

Nice to see AA partner with Blade and try something different. As said above, this all seems relatively low risk overall, and adds some value to a certain subset of flyers. Good for them!

How many times has this been tried in NYC since the 1960's? New York Airways was probably the most successful but ended service after two accidents in the late '70's.

Not sure how important that is in today's world with Skype etc.

I think at $200 each way it's actually pretty reasonable and viable considering a taxi is $60, especially if going at rush hour there's definitely a big enough market for rich people to avoid traffic. Especially in LA for people who can then fly to LAX and then get to the Valley without traffic.

Yeah what is old is new.

DL already partners with Blade at JFK and UA uses HeliFlite for it's EWR transfer option.

Of course AA was partners with US Helicopter until they went BK and shut down.

How do you explain the amount of premium seats on the LAX-NYC routes then ? While Skype etc is good for some things, actually sitting down is still the vastly preferred way of doing business.

I would have to agree with that.

It's only $200 if you can fill every seat on the chopper. $600+ otherwise.

Uber Black, right now, is $134 from our Manhattan office to EWR and $102 to JFK.

That's totally worth (incremental $150) it if you're white shoe and can squeeze in an extra meeting.

Don't know where you're seeing $200. I see $1,350 -$2k in the article.

Skype is not a good meeting replacement no matter how much we want it to be. It’s great for short informal stuff, but can’t replace face to face for business deals and workshops.
Look at sweatpants guy. This is a 90 million dollar aircraft, not a Tallahassee strip club
