OS retro livery?

Mon Feb 25, 2019 1:59 pm

Anyone agree that the new Austrian retro livery is way better than the current or previous iterations?

Simple, clean lines, with a splash of color at the front to break the Eurowhiteness.

I thought that was the new Austrian livery for one moment. Looks good, much better than the current one.

Couldn’t agree more. To be honest, when I first saw it I thought what a great “new” livery it was. Then I realised it was retro. Bring back the retro, I say.

Austrian Airlines spends an awful lot of time (and presumably money) painting planes, repainting them, and switching up its livery. This was their livery in the 1980s.

The last type to be delivered in this beautiful scheme was their A342, OE-LAG/H, in March 95.

Retro looks super
Way better than the current livery
But not as good as the previous livery with the shades of blue
And I still love the red tights - been using OS since 1978 and never tire of them!

They never should have done away with this simple, elegant, timeless livery. There was nothing wrong with it.

It looks fantastic! However when I first just glanced at the photo it reminded me of MartinAir Cargo

There's hardly any difference between this 80's retro (as an aside, it's a bummer that they repainted their previous retrojet just a couple months ago- that plane looked great, too!) and the new livery. The tail is swoopier (modernized) and the forward logo is larger (modernized).
That's basically it.

And count me in with the crowd that though the blue bellies looked best.
Now it's just too obviously a cheap Lufthansa Group paint scheme... as is Lufthansa's new aberration of a livery.

This is a tough one. They are both pretty boring, but I like the grey belly better than white.

This was the best, sharpest looking livery that Austrian ever had. Big mistake in moving away from it. The current one is passable. The two(?) other liveries in-between, were just awful.

1 more here who thought this was the new livery... it does not look old, it looks perfectly contemporary and appropriate: IMHO, it has everything to proudly represent Austrian

Retro looks good but still the blue belly was their best livery, very Austrian and stylish. New one is “ok” but nothing special. Atleast the “my” got dropped from livery.

So true. +1 +1

Two and a half, I'd say. The green&blue stripe, then the bluebelly, of which the blues got done away with as first aid before the current one was presented.

Agree 100%. I also thought at first it was a new livery. Too bad!

There was a joke back in the 1990's about the national carriers of Switzerland and Austria: Where Swissair has a "plus", Austrian has a "minus" on its tail...

Although this livery was never used on A320 before, OS came very close. When they announced the initial order for 13 A320/321 in 1990 Airbus made renderings how the planes will look like. As this was the livery at that time it looked exactly what we see now. The website MD80.com shows them on their story about OS MD80 operations history.

To me it is the way an OS plane should look like... (followed by the Baby blue)

By the way, the livery with blue shades on A320s is now gone - they've sent OE-LBU to BTS for paint after LBO returned, so they have just 2 A321s (OE-LBE/LBF) to finish in March. Also the rest of B763s and 1 B772 will be repainted in March...

Honestly, I think this is way better than the present Austrian Airlines livery.

If you want to go retro I wouldn't mind to see that one on a Q400:

I agree as well, that this was one of the classiest & most iconic liveries of Austrian.

If you could pick one, which would be your favourite? I am curious of the results!

To me livery it's C and then the current one F.
But C was the perfect blend of a historic livery using the flag and of airline logo: the arrow and dynamic blue green cheatline.
Plus I prefer to have XYZ Airlines rather than just XYZ as is the trend now.

For me, it's livery "B". Simple, elegant and a clean identiy.

Yes, in my opinion, this was by far the best livery of an Austrian airline - but I don't count that as an OS livery ;-)
