B6 Profit Sharing

Thu Feb 28, 2019 12:10 pm

Around numbers, give or take for seniority

-$350 for pilots
-$100 for Flight Attendants
-$50-$75 for Airport/Ground workers

.2 percent of salary

On $750 million in profits.

Thoughts?

What do other airlines pay towards profit sharing?

Nothing compared to the Auto workers checks of nearly $10K.

DL paid out $1.3B in PS on Feb 14th. Average per employee was $16k. Regardless, each employee received 14.1% of eligible 2018 wages.

I don’t have specific numbers other than my own payout, but I’d wager the average pilot PS was much more than $16k.

Hate? Hate what? The reality that one could make more money working elsewhere and/or get profit sharing checks on par with that of my industry peers?

Then why don't you quit JetBlue and go work for Delta.

It’s actually a pretty valid post. That’s gotta make a dent in their ability to retain talent, which might be the point.

Most captain PS checks are likely double 16k, with many well above that.

I don't work for JetBlue...
Great idea by the way. "If you don't like working here at JetBlue, go work for X airline."
Someone should hire you into an airline management role at B6. Actually I would not be surprised if find out that you are the CEO himself.
In fact you should tell that directly to the face of every JetBlue employee. That'll go over quite well.

$750 million is profits? Where and when? The 4Q income press release shows $219 million in EBIT for the year, for a pre-tax margin of 2.9%.

Does B6 give out any other sort of performance bonuses throughout the year? If not, those numbers are closer to monthly bonuses, even for regionals and/or ground handlers.

It was about $720 million for profit sharing purposes. They backed out the special items for the E190 retirement and the effects of the pilot contract. Still, after applying the profit sharing formula, the employees received about $3 million.

One time and special non cash items are subtracted from EBIT and but included in PS formulas.

B6 had $726m in adjusted EBIT and $1,394M of eligible wages for a 5.02% profit sharing percentage payout.

But then the company takes the first basis points from the 5.02% so the employees are bestowed 0.02%.

If we had a middle of the road formula and B6 did not take the first 5 points we should have seen about 8%. But that is over $105 million jetblue just kept because they could.

But we have to keep B6 different and this pilot group is really good at that and some even pride themselves on how hard they try to keep jetblue different. It usually starts with: "if you don't like it quit"

And lose years of seniority? Smarter to wait for the merge.

If people in the industry could transfer their seniority from carrier to carrier, the stampede you'd see would eclipse all the roundups of the 19th century put together.

.02%. That’s how much I care about helping the operation as I get countless emails begging for help
.02% that’s how much I hope that we don’t merge
100% that’s how much I hope Johanna and Joel Petersen are shown the door

Preface - I worked for B6 during the Neeleman and then Barger reigns. The culture has become toxic. Their current president has talent, but she's out of her lane. She should be their SVP/General Counsel. The President should be a solid operational person. That's why Barger excelled in that role initially. Robin Hayes is an opportunist, but he's done a good job on the product.
They have considerable talent among their senior VP staff. Rachel McCarthy is a huge asset for B6. For my money however, Marty St. George is an amazing leader who knows the industry back and fourth. He's well respected and has the ability to reach the front lines. He's a Boston guy and has the resume to back up his chops. He wouldn't surround himself with sycophants like the current group does, or like the prior group did when they brought in the cast offs that DL didn't want any longer.

Yea, funny thing. I called up Delta and told them to clear a spot for me and I would be there on Monday to start. Didn’t work out as easy as you proclaim it to be.

I don't blame Delta for not hiring people who whine on a.net.

Lol, indeed. It's generally pretty amusing that these experts claim there would be a "stampede" to other carriers... whilst not understanding relative lack of liquidity WRT available positions (and of course the total lack of seniority for the few that do exist).

I wouldn't either. If that were a thing that was true. DL has as many garbage people posting here as any other carrier. Nothing noteworthy there...

A profitsharing payout this small is an insult imho. Why bother?

You mean by multiple work groups voting in unions?

$50 for a yearly anything for anyone is ridiculous.
