I really like the new livery. Looking forward to seeing it on the 777 and 787! Let’s just hope they paint the engines on the 787.

I posted it earlier but lord, this is not too much different than 30 years ago (minus Peter Cetera doing background vocals): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVlNf4Io2Do

EDIT: Never mind make that Michael McDonald, perfect for the two carriers!

I quite like it. It’s not the best livery I’ve ever seen but it’s a nice refresh. Could it look better with some minor tweaks? Probably, but there’s nothing offensive here.

I do like it. It certainly does not blow mw away but it was never going to, being that it was an evolution as opposed to a revolution. Nice work UA. Lets get a 777 and 787 out in there soon as I think they will look much more impressive.

It's not bad per se, but it's literally the same livery on the 787s and MAXs just blue. I expected more of a new brand. Disappointing but not bad.

Notice those who are upset completely missed the point on the *first official message* from the airline itself that it was an evolution rather than a revolution, and that the globe was to stay.

This site is admittedly decent for insider news and leaks, but not much else.

I might be biased! I like it quite a bit and I think I agree with others here that this livery is recapturing what *should* have been done post CO merger, so I definitely see it more as a stepping stone rather than something permanent. Until something truly revolutionary comes along, this does the job just fine and I think I'm more relieved we didn't get a China Eastern 2.0

It's ok... could be worse, I guess...

But there's something off about it. The swoop doesn't harmonize with the bold and strong "UNITED" lettering. The globe is refined nicely but it seems kinda outdated to "cut" the tail off when it meets the fuselage. The swoop almost seems like they wanted to put something there and not go all eurowhite. That's great in general but I'm not sure if they succeeded here.

I've got mixed feelings about it.
I like things about it, but other things make me go "oh gosh.... well, it's not as bad as Lufthansa."
The tail is a miss for me. It needed to come down onto the empennage or something; this just kinda looks like someone took the existing tail globe and said "make it look more Microsoft Clipart Library-ish."
I'm fine with the billboard, but I can't figure out when they shifted it aft, so that the D is halfway onto the overwing exit, while the U is nowhere close to the front door.
I'm glad for the gray belly, and I'm glad for the blue engines, but together they kinda.... meh.

So yeah. I'm quietly relieved that there was no eurowhite and no repeat of the Lufthansa abomination.
But I'm not exactly impressed.
And when you consider how United is... we'll probably be looking at this paint job for another thirty years. Which gives me no comfort.

I agree that it looks like what they should have done from the outset at the merger. Which, to me, is part of the problem.
"Look! We've caught up to where we should have been ten years ago!"

The blue is too pale, it will fade and look lousy and the white looks washed out right there in the paint shop

Love all the whining on here with pretty much EVERY new livery a major carrier comes out with! I personally like the new livery, keeps the Continental globe but has the United 2003-2009 colour pallette for the tail. Just how a merged airline should be.

I like the Bigger letters and shades of blue,

Comparing the reactions here to other livery reveals, they may have accomplished what they set out; path of least resistance, not much love or hate....if neutral was a livery LOL

I like it alright it just looks a little mismatched. If I were to look at the tail by itself, I would have a hard time envisioning the rest of the fuselage. That doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense but essentially, I feel like there should’ve been more continuity in the color choices. Just my opinion though. As far as new liveries go, this is one of the better ones and not necessarily a downgrade I think

I don’t get the people who are upset that the paint scheme wasn’t more refined or intricate. Painting planes cost money. The more complex the job the more expensive it is and United has a ~1,000 planes to paint.

Wonder if there will be a logo or titling on the belly. I always thought this was underutilized advertising and branding space.

I've never liked liveries that just seem so boring, sure it's got a swoosh, but I'd have preferred something a bit more like the current KLM swoosh down at the nose. Tail seems fine, although it's
prominent use of the light blue seems a bit out of place.
Nothing very offensive though, I'd say overall still quite indifferent about it all.

I've talked to a designer who seemed to hate having the write the airlines name facing one side, For example he mentioned he would have had the Virgin Logo painted on the bottom of their planes as viewed if you were standing behind it, rather than the current text you can only read if you're off the one side.

I'd agree I wouldn't mind seeing something underneath though, as they do often look a tad bare.

I'd actually say sweeping generalizations like these have gotten more tired than people actually complaining about liveries. In reality most folks here are saying it's mediocre (I agree), most folks said Air Canada was bad (I actually like the new livery much better), and the more iconic liveries like Lufthansa and AA people were sad to see go, understandably, so negative reactions were inevitable on an enthusiast website. Plenty of liveries have been released and well received here as well.

United did a great job with the new livery. My only regret is that they didn't implement it at the time of the merger since it pays homage to both former liveries while adding the Dreamliner twist. Anything is better than United titles pasted on Continental's livery.

I guess any hopes of a 'tulip' revival of some-sort are now dashed for good. We all knew an entire re-brand was not in the works so this will due for another decade I guess.

The livery looks fine honestly. Wish there was at least one other color in there (like purple), but it would have been worse...

What I'm really impressed by is the ability of the members of this site to have so accurately predicted this. The real livery looks SO CLOSE to what people had been producing on here! Well done A-netters !

I’m glad it’s not their “slap a United name on a Continental plane” livery but it doesn’t feel cohesive to me. Maybe if the engines had a gradient to them like the tail... I don’t know. I wasn’t expecting United to reinvent the wheel, but I was hoping for a bit more finesse. I’m sure when seen in real life it will be more impactful.

I like the bigger font and the wavy line... but I wish the tail had another color... maybe purple or teal like the new uniforms. The only thing that really I don’t like is the shade of blue on the engines. I feel like it cheapens the look of the brand... had it been a darker blue or purple it would have been much better.

I have mixed feelings. It certainly met the expectations set by Oscar. I was hoping for something more. I think those that summarized this saying this should have been the livery at the time of the merger nailed it. 10 years later, this should be an evolution to something better. All that said, I like it a lot better than the existing and will look nice over the whole fleet.

Unfortunately, the tulip is dead and I don't advocate bringing it back. I said this before but I think the idea of the globe is sophomoric. Yes, they are a global airline but they don't need a globe to prove it. Just because you have a presence on the world wide web, doesn't mean you need to add a www. or .com to your company name.

But, like VC10er said earlier, the globe is so engrained in their brand, it would be hard to get rid of it now... but I would have rather seen it evolve into something more abstract kind of like they did with the tulip for the blue rising livery...

Where is VC10er when you need him?

I look forward to seeing it in daylight, the colors will be more evident. It is sunny right now downtown...

What is UA going to do with the express fleet? Do you think they are going to still stick with the billboard letters on a CRJ-200? Also, what do you guys think about the engines on the Y-tails, do you think they stick with the blue or they go the DL route and stick with white engines?
