What is UA going to do with the express fleet? Do you think they are going to still stick with the billboard letters on a CRJ-200? Also, what do you guys think about the engines on the Y-tails, do you think they stick with the blue or they go the DL route and stick with white engines?

For the letters probably something like AA did with Eagle.

So it's a grower not a shower?

I disagree that they have to stick with the globe forever, or not do something else with it. American and Delta both completely changed,
and BA did a while back by adopting the ribbon. As for those saying UA has a lot of planes to repaint well this is true but they're
doing it anyway.

So my question is this? Was this move political? Is the CO-UA rivalry thing still going on that strong all these years later?

Groundbreaking? No. But I don't think it needed to be. If you put it side by side with the one one it's a bunch of minor changes that really add up and I'm rather impressed with the result. I'd honestly say it's less eurowhite than before. The grey has always just blended with the white so while a blue belly I think would be better, the billboard titles and painted engines really break up the blank space and it just looks so much cleaner.

To be honest, it looks a lot better from the side than in the original leaked photo. I'm fine with it here. I am excited to see it in daylight.

United missed an opportunity to make the globe larger to go under the tail schemes that American and Southwest have been going at lately.

The spacing between the swoop of blue line and the swoop of the gray belly seems to vary... is that 1) intended 2) sloppy mistake or 3) an illusion due to the shape of the airplane. If #1, it isn’t enough to look intended, should be exaggerated more...

It's certainly not remarkable and still has it's Continental roots. At least in my opinion, it's very safe, you can't hate it, but no one is going to go WOW!

My initial gut reaction is that it feels very disjointed. The fuselage and tail seem like they're from totally different liveries. I'm really surprised they kept the grey underbelly. I do very much like the tail though.

Maybe some good pictures in the sun will change my mind.

The titles, engines and winglets are all United Blue. The wavy line appears to be Rhapsody Blue. The purple tint is just the hangar lights throwing off the color balance of the photo.

It's fine, and that's OK because anytime you do something "WOW!" half of the people will hate it... I just don't understand why the color purple? It's not an eye catching color, I don't look at it first, but whatever, who cares.

To me something just feels unfinished about the livery. It's missing something to complete it. I don't really care for basically still having the same livery as CO did from what, almost 30 years ago at this point.

Looks even better on the 787 than the 737- A320s and RJs should be interesting.

Honestly, I'm not impressed. I'm one of the 3 people who actually liked the previous livery, and I feel that the gold made them stand out a little but more than the others. The font is too big and cartoonish for my taste, and the underbelly in my opinion are disgusting. I am a big fan of the tail though, it feels much more United than the previous one, the only change I would make to it is to try and move the globe a little bit, make it more distinct from the previous livery. The underbelly should have been blue and much smaller, with a gold cheatline. That font should be much thinner than it currently is, it feels far too LCC for my tastes. This is ofc my opinion, I'm no designer, but these are my thoughts.
If you can walk away from it intact, it was a good landing!

I've never been one who disliked the old Continental (then United) scheme. I always thought it looked classy. Certainly better than either the AA or DL schemes.

So, this is fine. It's hard to tell from a photo but the shade of blue looks nice.

As someone who works on the ramp, I much prefer having the tail number on the fuselage instead of at the top of the tail. Much easier to see from under the airplane.

Since all of UA's MAX 9s are parked, it would be a good time for UA to send them all to the paint shop........

I don't love it, I don't hate it. Then again, I'm old school and still adore the Continental livery. It just looks a little bit too Jetblue-y for me. Overall, I give it a B-.

What effect, if any, do we think this will have on Copa's branding? I realize their look came about due to Continental's investment but I'm curious to see if they'll change it.

I do like the tail and enlarged globe. I like the fuselage isn’t all euro white. I like that the engines have color.

I do not like the large billboard titles or the basic font. I do not like the thin blue toned wavy line. And I do not like the pale gray belly.

I wish the belly was a darker gray and same gray introduced as an accent to the globe. I wish the wavy line was larger and more pronounced. I wish the titles were in the old CO font and above the window line.

I love the new tail! love how the gradient look. Its a nice fresh look for UA.

i think they could of added more color, but its still an improvement over the current one which was old and outdated.

For the most part I like it... Though there seems to be something "missing" and I think I know exactly what that is..

Take the dark blue wavey cheatline and add another light blue, wavey cheatline just above it to make it two-tone. Perhaps widen it slightly.

That.. would change everything. It would be the modern evolution of Rising Blue with it's wavey two tone blues and blue gradient tail. :)

Anyone want to try making a mock-up of this idea?

I'm not a fan of billboard titles overall, so that part doesn't impress me - really liked the detail in that close-up pic of tail though, that was nice. Glad the engines are painted, like the new color of the globe as well. I'll give it a 7 out of 10.

I think this would be hard to achieve with a globe. That globe would get distorted by the curvature of the a/c body and would look like it got bloated and needs to fart. I can't wait to see this livery in daylight. I actually like it.

On another note, can B787 engines be painted at all?
Flying at the cruising altitude is (mostly) boring. I wish all flights were nothing but endless take offs and landings every 10 minutes or so.

Seeing how the AS livery got translated to the minibus, I’m curious to see how UA is going to handle the shortest aircraft in the mainline fleet. Hopefully for express they just do what AA did. Overall I like it. I wish the swoop was a little bolder. I think the Busses are going to look odd with the swoop. That’ll be interesting to see. I think they made the right move debuting on a Boeing, though I wish it was a 789 or 772. UA can easily get a good start on repaints with the MAX fleet unoccupied.

Well, I think all of our worst fears have been averted. No Eurowhite! They didn't pull a Lufthansa!

I'll say that it's an improvement; a modernized version of Continental's livery (which wasn't bad when it debuted). I still miss rising blue however, I thought that was truly inspired.

I know it would have been an impossible feat but the 'globe' should have been ditched. The most recent evolution has it looking more like a conservatory or a birdcage rather than a globe, it barely references 'the world' and is almost unintelligible. I'm aware this would have been a massive undertaking.
