Buzz is back! Ryanair Sun to rebrand.

Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:29 am

Ryanair Sun is changing name to Buzz. I guess Ryanair has rights to that name from years back. First airplane will be rebranded in fall of 2019. It will be a bee on the tail with the airplanes pained white and yellow.

I don’t know. For this being a vacation charter airline the Sun fits and should have painted a sun on the airlplanes and be done with it.

In polish only.

What's the point other than added operational complexity if you now longer have easily interchangeable subfleets as a result of the different branding? (at least if Ryanair cares about branding)

Ryanair sun or Buzz is charter operator, the point is to have “different” product for different market in this case charter market. Uhh can’t wait to see new livery.

Will it still in reality be Ryanair Poland? Or will they operate in other markets?

Great heading haha Buzz is back .... FR has clearly changed strategy to become a portfoilio of airlines to mitigate risk and manage beoing/airbus more effectively ... would not be surprised to see FR start a long haul low cost start up with A321Lrs (like Level) when Norwegian is being divided up ....

The article in Polish says that 17 aircraft currently based in Poland will be rebranded plus an additional 8 aircraft. So it looks more like all the Polish-based aircraft will operate under the Buzz brand, not just the few doing charters. And for that but I don't really see the benefit, taking the disadvantages into consideration. People have flown under the Ryanair brand to leisure destinations for 20+ years.

Then I was a kid in Poland there used to be a cartoon named Maja the bee. They should name the first aircraft that. The livery is actually pretty good I have to say :)

Livery looks very old-fashioned. Like something from the 90s

An interesting move. I think they should've brought back the original Buzz livery. It was bold and still looks fresh in my opinion.

Its good to see that they got a pre-school art class to design the new colours. I am sure the children will be very happy with the results.

I guess that FR need an ‘incubator’ brand to try things out. They have had three different hand luggage rules within 12 months. Given the signage, website changes, bad publicity and customer confusion it might make sense to isolate the parent brand from new concepts.

Also it should be taken into account that O’Leary has said that multiple AOC are going to complete with each other insight of Ryanair holding so making more brands will give more space for competition but also make huge steps inside of group.

Btw. The branding seems totally amateurish.

Based on the current operations and renders I would imagine it will be 737-800 and MAX 8/(10) at Ryanair and Buzz. Then A321neo order for Laudamotion.

Rumors are a large MAX 10 order for Ryanair and A321neo order for Laudamotion.

Pity that IATA 3lt code BEE is already taken by FlyBE. Guess they could apply for BZZ instead :D

A great advantage of the yellow fest is that they have synergies with Ryanair cabin elements.

As much as the branding is a little garish it makes total sense, a portfolio of brands that appear as separate entities to the consumers mitigates risk and allows for appropriate products for the chosen market. The fleet size of around 25 (all based in one country) is also enough to not rely to need to rely on spare Ryanair frames in the pool...

Next comes the A321LR/'A321XLR' order for a Ryanair group airline of some sort!

The Ryanair site has evolved quite a lot over the last years and now it includes terms like "Business Plus", a concept which customers would have never connected to an airline like FR. As much as O'leary said they would never consider operations in places like FRA, they ended up opening a base there.

Did Ryanair become "too premium" for some markets, starting from East Europe where there is a rather "more local" option via Wizz which for years has established as an ULCC? Will BUZZ go backwards in part of the "always getting better" program installed by Ryanair, so that Ryanair becomes the friendly-low-cost carrier leaving for BUZZ the truly-non-frills market?

    Interesting times ahead.

For those unaware, buzz was created by KLMuk as the response to BA’s LCC go.

Buzz was a failure from day one, and was very quickly bought by Ryanair, who ditched the original Bae146’s.

Prior to being offloaded to Ryanair, With the 146’s not viable, Buzz brought in Channel Express to operate 737 classics, which gave the now Jet2 their first taste of the potential of LCC. The also acquired some Continental 733’s which ended up in a strange FR/CO livery

Ryanair also launched Ryanair UK today.

I'm happy to be corrected but I am almost certain that Channel Express did not operate for Buzz.

They started with ex-KLM uk BAe-146s and were transitioning to 737-300s at the time that they were sold. The ex-CO 737s were ordered by Buzz but the leases were fairly quickly rejected after Ryanair took over as the terms were not very favourable, which reflected Buzz's somewhat precarious financial position when the agreement was signed.

Most likely Poland. Ryanair Sun, the old name for Buzz, is mainly flying out of Poland.

They're just regular 737s, so they do have overhead bins. Most of them are still the old-style small overhead bins, hence the reason Ryanair has to gate-check so many bags each time. Some aircraft already have sky interior with larger overhead bins.

Take a closer look. Almost all Ryanair operations out of Poland, including those at Modlin, are "Ryanair operated by Ryanair Sun". Ryanair Sun currently has 17 aircraft and 7 operating bases in Poland. They look like regular Ryanair aircraft, only with a Polish registration instead of Irish. All Ryanair Sun flights are bookable through the Ryanair website just like regular Ryanair flights, from a passenger perspective there is no difference.

With the rebranding of Ryanair Sun into Buzz, the passenger is going to see the difference with another name on the aircraft. Operationally nothing changes. Buzz flights will still be sold through Ryanair, but they might put up an additional site for Buzz which will basically be a copy of the Ryanair site only with a different design. Basically the same they did with LaudaMotion. Same website, other colors, flights come from the same database.

IMHO, more likely an attempt at deterring strikes. If all German Ryanair pilots decide to strike for decent working conditions, they can always sub in the Buzz or Lauda planes to cover it.

      Oh how short memories are!

All non-BSI Ryanair 737s are fitted with what were marketed as Boeing Big Bins. It's why there is a definite angle in the overhead bins if you look from the back of the plane. The overhead bins are substantially larger than those found on 737 classics and 757s.

I have to wonder how long this will remain with the B738, given that Ryanair has made no real move to replace the LH-owned OE fleet with its own B738s, instead bringing in other A320/A321 planes. This is where Ryanair could make a deal with Airbus down the line to stock Buzz and Laudamotion with A320neo planes (Y186) and A321neo (Y235 with 5 exits).

Agree! We had that too, and I loved watching Maja!
          Yes, cool colourful livery!

          Memory lane! I remember Maja!

All announcements on these planes should be done with Karel Gott‘s voice.. Is he still alive?

I like the livery. It feels fresh.

It is also interesting the yellow. It seems Ryanair is giving each brand a strong color: blue for Ryanair, red for Laudamotion and yellow for Buzz.

Neat livery. it reminds me a lot of Eastwind's 732s with that big bee on the tail.

Although until now I didn't have a clue who KARL GOTTS was as I'm totally unaware of the man but a VERY quick ''under 15 seconds'' search online I found that he is of Czech decent and 79yo and was born on the 14 July 1939 and is still very much alive!

Maja the bee is a beloved cartoon shown all around the world to this day..So all kids and adults have fond memories of Maja and Billy..It wouldn't bother me at all to fly a plane that reminds of sth so sweet and innocent (with the inherent risk always of Ryanair service destroying that, but still...)..

Awesome!! Totally works for a holiday charter operator. Kids will love it and I guess many adults in Europe remember Maja the Bee from their childhood.

Cheap and disgusting. Fits the profile of an airline you take to fly to Malaga for a drinking weekend.

What’s wrong a drinking weekend in Malaga ? If that’s what’s made them all those profits good for them .... god knows where the airline fantasy snobs go for the weekend ...
