Virgin Atlantic- Is a new Upper Class design in the works?

Sat Mar 16, 2019 11:47 pm

Does VS have plans to introduce a re-designed Upper Class seat? While refreshed, the current design is dated. The previous re-design was a flop. Has anything been announced or leaked?

I have heard rumblings that this may be in the works, but so far nothing confirmed.

I flew SEA-LHR in their Upper Class a few weeks ago. Loved it. Slept like a baby.
The layout seems strange in pictures, but, I quite enjoyed it.

VS has a new Upper Class product being introduced on the A350-1000's.
However, it is very secretive at the moment - it will be quite a drastic change than what you may be used to on VS.

I thought I heard an announcement there would be a new UC suite on the A350s. I find the current version very narrow. Looking forward to seeing the next iteration.

The current product is miserable - much too tight, absolutely no storage or any kind, tiny drink tray exactly positioned to hit your funny bone every time you shift position, and a “bed” that’s less padded than the seat even after it’s made up with the duvet. Whoever thought sleeping on the carpeted back of a La-Z-Boy recliner was a good idea needs to be sidelined when designing their next product. It’s absolutely insane they installed this nonsense on the 787 - you can make a really credible argument that this is the worst flatbed J product in the world right now.

I actively avoid VS unless there aren’t any other rational options. A new Upper Class product can’t come soon enough.

Can see how having to stand up and have your seat turned down into a bed, can be upsetting to some... no way to just drift to sleep.

Definitely think it would be a good idea to change that, in whatever their supposed new seat evolves into.
I myself, suspect a more prosaic motive... ~Thranduil

This is the idea of the new version.

I wonder if they are simply waiting on BA? Why not wait to see what your competitors are doing then beat it? Even with small touches and finishes?

Hopefully NZ with the same seat change soon too! Nothing worse than looking at someone’s feet/toes all flight

The editor of head for points (uk travel blog) has said the date for the launch has been put in his diary so it can’t be far away.

My thoughts exactly - as DL's stake in VS grows, and as the trans-Atlantic partnership grows, why not just standardise the hard product across DL and VS, and allow each airline to finesse the soft product (service) to stay on brand?

They are ex-Air Berlin seats I believe.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new seat was similar to the new Delta One seat.

That would actually be pretty smart, but is it dense enough? Would look good with Virgin's glossy white, and bold purple/red accents

Actually, I believe these are the new seats on the ex-AB planes, the ones above were the lightly modified stop-gap until a more thorough refresh could be done. Yes, they are the same basic format as in the AB days but, as far as I can tell, almost all of the seat structure was replaced. Most of the hardware appears to be different. Note the changed position of the monitor to allow for side tables at each seat, higher walls, etc.

The days Of Virgin excellence are over.

Do people choose VS for seat or for price?

Would they be better off following the Eurowings mid cost model, with a flat bed and three star service?

Now that BA has launched their new Club World Seat - expect VS to announce the new seat fairly soon.
They will want to create their own buzz - so will probably wait until the BA excitement winds down.
