Depends on the damage. Planes are hard to come by for Iranian airlines, so if the fix isn't to expensive, it will be done.

A VC10 did this when being refuelled at Brize. It never flew again. With all that weight at the rear it would have come down pretty hard.

Anyone who has ever been to the playground knows that this 747 could have either tipped over veeeery slowly, causing only a minor bump, or it could have totally wrecked it's ass, pardon the language. So unless you have been there or seen the video, there is no way you can tell if this is a write-off or a quick fix.

A stretch 8? I think its great that Iran is till flying the 747, but to see an "8" still out there getting her morning workout is even better.
My compliments to the mechanics who do miracles to keep these ladies in the air. If I ever run across these guys, I'm buying. I just want to hear the different stories they have on how they kept them up.

This aircraft was improperly loaded as it in appears the second photo showing that cargo is loaded past the side cargo door putting too much weight on the of the aircraft. Cargo should have been loaded also in the forward section of the aircraft to prevent this from happening. To right the aircraft the cargo must be moved and secured in the forward end of the aircraft reducing the weight on the rear of the aircraft. If it done correctly the aircraft will almost right itself and if done correctly the aircraft will not slam down on it's nose gear. The only other option is to put a strap around the rear the aircraft after removing the cargo through the side door. This would much more labor intensive and would risk more damage to the aircraft and possibly cargo. The aircraft should be repairable if it did not come shaming down on it's tail end resulting in structural damage that would require extensive repairs.

727s were famous for tipping like this. I remember reading an Airliners magazine from about 15 years ago where it was said a 27 could usually be gently righted by having a couple of people walk slowly towards the front of the cabin. That 150kgs or so was all that was needed to get back into balance, usually undamaged. Hopefully for this classic 747 that the damage is little to none.

Could all have been prevented with a tail stand or strapping down the nose gear like FedEx does

Only reason if this plane becomes a write-off is that Iran is unable to source parts due to sanctions. But I think they will make a valiant effort to save this bird, since its used by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to run supplies to Syria.

Congrats on being the first to post the obligatory "write off" joke for this incident. I always appreciate a chuckle with my morning coffee.
It surprises me how many on this forum cannot spot this joke every time it appears (and it always will.) I am not saying that there are not some posters who are genuinely asking if a certain incident will result in a write-off, however it is pretty clear from the way this one was posted that it was done tonge-in-cheek. Lighten up everyone.

Apparently this is common occurrence even with established airlines. Most distinctive was United's then-new livery on B744 when "wheeee-ing" in SYD few weeks after launching.

True, we could hardly judge from photo if the airframe is damaged.

According to FR24, it flew back to THR this morning. Also according to FR24, it was a regular between THR and DAM in the past weeks...
