Anything interesting happening this year charter-wise?

I’m curious to see who OAK/TEX/ARI/COL will be on this upcoming season. I believe all four were on private 757s/767s at various points last season.

I know the Dbacks will most likely be using the private 757 that they were using last season. That thing is probably the lowest use 757 out there since it just sits on the FBO ramp at Sky Harbor all year.

Does anyone know what Seattle and Oakland are flying back from Tokyo?
I saw a picture that has the Mariners boarding an Atlas 747 of some form, but no tail number.

Nationals and quite a few others use DL who have a sub fleet of 757's for all their sports charters. All business class seating with some facing each other. Nationals fly under DL8895

Looks like the A's also have an Atlas 747 https://flightaware.com/live/flight/GTI ... /RJTT/KOAK

GTI8239 (N322SG - 747-481) just left HND for OAK. I'd imagine that's related, as I didn't see any other charters going from TYO to SEA or PHX.

It looks like N263SG is also at HND. It flew from PHX to HND the same day that N322SG did. That would make sense since both teams have their spring training in the Phoenix metro.

Each airline flew over to HND on Atlas 744 and now back on Atlas 744.

I know that last year, the Atlanta Braves occasionally used a 739ER, but generally when the NBA season winds down, you'll see more DL MLB teams using the 752 sub-fleet. For some reason, I thought I saw the Giants using a 320 on some charters, but they still use DL despite a marketing deal with AS.

TEX might be using either the 757 or 767 from Mark Cuban's charter company as they have in the past. Not sure about OAK or COL, but we'll find out in about a week or two, I guess.

The DL 757s are mainly for the NBA, when that slows down it frees them up for MLB.

DL actually sold the 757s and they crew them for the company that bought them.

The Rays generally use DL and the 752. Wonder if they will again this year. I haven't seen an airline advertise for TB yet, and I wonder if DL will since they'll be doing TPA-AMS and have a strong FF base at MCO.

Anybody have the Mariners flight number for the regular season? I tracked them sometimes last year, but have forgotten the number. IIRC, DL88xx.

A little surprised the Steinbrenners haven't bought a plane for the Yankees like Kraft did for the Pats

The only MLB team which has it's own plane are the Detroit Tigers, who share a DC-9 variation with the Red Wings.

Cheaper to charter and less responsibility.

Both Colorado and Arizona used their 757 and 734 from Paradigm for their trip to MTY for a spring training series about two weeks ago.

Brewers last year used United 737-800s mostly. I would assume they have a contract with United. Not sure why they are using this year.

Jerry Reinsdorf probably flies the White Sox on FedEx feeder flights.

Only because planes can't run on steroids.

Close... The White Sox used UA A320s last season - while every other MLB team which chartered with UA had 737s.

That must be interesting if they ever have to take a transcon flight, if some schedule oddity means they have to go from NY to Seattle or Atlanta to Seattle etc.

The 757s are owned I believe by an unidentified leasing company, which leases them to an NBA-controlled trust. DL operates them on a CMI basis. Delta, with the permission of the owning trust, can make them available for private charter in the off-season for the NBA (and perhaps at other times).

Texas Rangers broke training camp and flew to BNA for a pre-season series against their AAA affiliate on N767MW (5Y7831).

I don't know if the Rangers will be using 5Y7831 all season or not.

Pretty much the same flight numbers for the UA and DL teams from last season:

UNITED

UA2500 - Houston
UA2501 - Cleveland
UA2502 - LA Dodgers
UA2503 - Chicago White Sox
UA2504 - Chicago Cubs
UA2505 - Kansas City
UA2506 - Baltimore
UA2508 - Milwaukee
UA2509 - Philadelphia
UA2511 - LA Angels
UA2512 - Pittsburgh

DELTA

DL8883 - Atlanta
DL8884 - Boston
DL8885 - Cincinnati
DL8886 - Miami*
DL8887 - Minnesota*
DL8888 - New York Mets*
DL8889 - New York Yankees
DL8890 - St. Louis
DL8891 - San Diego
DL8892 - San Francisco
DL8893 - Seattle*
DL8894 - Tampa Bay*
DL8895 - Washington

(*) Awaiting official confirmation once these teams take their first formal road trip of the season

I'm guessing the Toronto Blue Jays will use AC again this season, but their flight from Florida to Montreal probably won't be filed until tomorrow. For the DL teams that I confirmed, San Francisco used a 739 on their PHX-SFO flight, Boston and Washington used A321s, and the rest that I could confirm (Atlanta, Cincinnati, Yankees, St. Louis and San Diego) were using 752s. Everything I've seen from the UA teams are 738/739s, except for the White Sox and their A320.

Mets are on a 752 right now from SRQ to SYR. That was the team's weird plan. Go to Syracuse before going to DC to start the season without a stop in NYC.

The Toronto Blue Jays are on AC again this season, using the AC7031/7032 combo.

Who are they playing in SYR? AAA club? (I no longer keep track of such things).

Nope, they're just working out on the Syracuse football field. Noah Syndergaard held nothing back in an interview yesterday.
