American A321NEO Cabin Shots

Wed Mar 20, 2019 6:05 pm

Hey guys, I was looking through instagram and I found this shot which shows American's newest family member in the "Party" mode. Does anyone else out there have more images of the cabin. I've already seen the images taken during delivery maintenance. Also, thoughts? Personally, I love the addition of the mood lighting, as it gives life to a rather dull cabin.

It’s the same colours they have on the overnight TATL flights by the looks. In real life on the 777 I think it looks great but on the A320 it’s a bit too much and overpowering.

Missing IFE.

Reminiscent of AMS. Without IFE and with their signature 30" pitch, I doubt this bird will ever get there.

Exactly. The value equation isn't there with AA.

(That wasn't a knock on Ryanair, I'd fly them all the time for what they charge....)

Same. I booked a friend ATH-STN for 30 euros roundtrip to see her brother during Easter and I flew ATH-CIA for 25. FR may have awful baggage policies but they're a very cheap and safe way to travel all around Europe while simultaneously offering non-stops other airlines wouldn't even consider for an April fool's joke, and they do all that while making profits and offering the same seat pitch as AA's new planes. Seriously flying Spirit is a much better value for everyone compared to AA economy (assuming of course they're flying the same route). It's no wonder employees and frequent flyers hate where this company has gone, and if they keep heading that way they will regret it down the line.

I agree... I can't get excited about these interiors that have these thin seats and no seatback TV's anymore -- no matter how cool the mood lighting is.

    Serious question:
If everyone starts bringing their iPad & chargers specifically for their flight, doesn't that negate a lot of this "weight / fuel savings" these airlines are supposedly seeing? After all, Delta's IFE is going wireless -- so it's basically a bunch of ipads on every seat now, not hundreds of pounds of wiring.

No because people will still have their iPads and chargers with them (nobody brings them on trips just for the flight). So on DL it would be seat iPads +personal iPads while on AA it would just be personal iPads. At this stage probably still a benefit to have the PTVs though.

At least its different... when the LED lighting system is capable of something like 1.4 billion different color combinations and United, American, Delta, Alaska, Jetblue, and Southwest ALL choose BLUE.

What impresses me is that American sprung for and selected the illuminated handrails just below the overhead bins - I've only seen a handful of airlines pay for this option including Lufthansa, British, ANA, and EVA.

Are AA going for the "popular" SpaceFlex galley/two lavs setup in the aft section on their A321NEO or are they keeping the full aft galley?

    1. This is one of the millions of lighting combinations possible with the LED lighting. Why are people complaining? It's not like it will be the only lighting used.
    2. I had a very similar lighting scheme on DL several years ago. Didn't complain about it then, wouldn't complain about it now.
    3. Got to agree: "If Delta had done this everyone would be cheering that it was so innovative."
    4. Yes, I prefer AVOD over personal device.

Not happy with the OASIS updates. Doug needs to listen to his front line employees (FA's), to get the pulse of what's really going on inside the airplane and how people are hating the new seats.

    Edits for clarity.

No, the lavs are in the same locations as their current A321's.

These are the new AirSpace XL bins that don't have the handrail recess and the lighting strip is flush with the bins. AA is the launch customer for these new bins, they're huge and allow for bags to be placed on their side.

Personally I like it. I always pay extra to book a seat in EconomyPlus/Economy Comfort/MCE so the pitch being tight doesn’t really bother me. AA knows what they’re doing, same as UA and DL do.

Hope to catch a NEO soon, though Frontier is the best bet out of DEN.

No IFE, but no IFE box taking up the leg room. I like the back of the seat tray to hold a tablet and the plug beside it. It works for me.

Agreed, but when the plug is dead, you are doomed to end up dead boring.
Also, being unable to see the plane’s route and its parameters during takeoff/landing is somewhat dissatisfying.

    Same here.

Regarding the question, consider this: which airline is the more profitable? The one that is investing in IFE or the one that's ripping it out?

Dunno about others experience, but over the last few months, AA was the cheapest (and most reliable) option for me flying SAN and SNA to DTW, via PHX. $$ cheaper than WN and Delta. Basically the same as Spirit once you factor in 1 cabin bag. So I think they've lowered their prices (unable to pick a seat option) to where they might just be getting back to full planes?

I can’t speak for anyone else but personally I already would have one or more devices wit me anyhow. Certainly the weight savings are indisputable even if the passenger experience isn’t.

      100% accurate.

The only problem is Delta would never do that. Actually I seen something internally at Delta that describe this as exactly what they don’t want to go for as it’s an almost too literal Loghtijg scheme. They should play with the harshness. Delta even toned their blue lights down.
