SQ A359 9V-SGE Suffers Engine Damage - EWR

Sat Mar 23, 2019 6:46 pm

It appears that 9V-SGE suffered engine damage due to a collision with a jet-bridge at EWR. The return flight to SIN has been cancelled.

The following Twitter post has a photo of the damage. https://twitter.com/frisco0303/status/1109497727833047041

On the surface, looks like it should be a pretty straightforward fix... though who knows what was harmed internally. :(

Wow, didn't realize door L2 is that close to the engine!

It isn’t, that’s someone driving the bridge into the aircraft I would suggest the engines were not even running at that stage with the aircraft on chocks.

That's a flush patch repair bit just to get TO the repair point? It's about 30 Hours to tear down that lip to get to the repair. At this point? It might be easier to cut out the section and replace it using Blind fasteners

It amazes me that the task of aligning the jetbridge to the aircraft door has not been automated.

I was on the AirTrain from Terminal A to NJTransit and was wondering why SQ was parked on a remote stand. Someone's in hot water, unfortunately.

If it is just the lip skin, it is a fairly easy replacement. They get damaged all the time from birdstrikes and debris.

Newark terminal B is terrible. It needs to be demolished so that taxiways are more maneuverable around the gates. The international flights are using concourses that are better designed for regional jets.
