Congrats to Airbus and China Aviation Supplies Holding Company! In terms of number of aircraft, that has to be one of the largest deals ever.

The deal announced in Paris will include both Neo -- for new engine option -- and so-called classic or CEO versions of the A319, A320 and A321, though the majority will be A320neos and A321neos

CEOs for fast availability or some amazing end of the line deals from A?

Either way great order.

This has to be the largest order plane ever! Curious to know who as all the clients that will use these planes.

I think the 10 A350s are follow-up order of A359 by CA.

I assume the A320’s to be assembled initially in China are going to continue to be CEO models? 1400 present A320’s in China alone is amazing. Congrats to all. Curious if any offsets involved in future programs/work.

The question becomes how many of these were already "announced" by the airlines and for those that were not already announced, which airlines will get the aircraft. Good news for Airbus though.

There was a same deal
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/artic ... ft-443037/

I guess it was too late for A380. Too little A350's and I am tiring of the smaller kind being ordered over a bigger one.

The thing interesting is: was that order increased after max grounding by the CAAC.

Huh, Airbus seems to really be having trouble selling a330s... You'd think they'd be more popular at least for the simple fact that production slots are more readily available.

Jouhou,

The A350 has an issue of a shortage of short term production slots. Airlines can get limited near term slots on the competition. I personally believe the A350 will sell better once slot availability matures.

The A320 order is staggering.

Yeah, they're paying the price for not going with an clean-sheet design. But Airbus also didn't spend nearly as much as Boeing did on the 787 so, I don't know how many Neo's Airbus has to sell to break even.

No, the Indigo order for 430 was larger, and think there is a few other larger as well for the NEO

It was already pointed up-thread that Boeing signed a similar deal in 2017 when Trump visited China for 300 aircraft. These deals were in the works for years.

6,700+. In addition Paris. I officially declare the production rate too low. Seriously, 630/year isn't enough. 700/year... Isn't enough.

Note:. I too wonder on the lack of Chinese A220 orders.

Great news for the 320 but the 220 and 330 don't look good if you ask me.
Is almost like airbus 320 and 350 are the only real valuable products for the customers.
I wish the 220 would get more love. Freaking great aircraft. Loved every trip on it with Swiss.

This is looking like a good year for the A350. 77 sold/mou so far by my reckoning (not including the Etihad cancellations).

I wouldn't call 536 orders ( wiki ) for the A220 all that shabby, I've not doubt it will hit 1000 within the next 12 months.

Chinese market is huge. A320 series is much better fit for Chinese airlines. Most Chinese Airlines requires O&D traffic and very little hub to spoke model for domestic traffic. Thus regional jet or small size jet is not required for their business model. Plus the high speed rail is so expansive that A220 sized plane can not possibly compete in secondary cities route. Regional flying is an alien concept to Chinese market. So is the hub to spoke model.

There's an A320 production line in China. That's a big political plus compared to the A220.

And then Chinese won't hesitate buying a 737 which until recently has no FAL/completion center in China.

Didn’t the Chinese ordered a boatload of A330ceo recently (2016/2017)? Maybe it’s a bit early for a new A330 order

AFAIK, the A220 centre fuselage is produced by AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. That's still a significant work package handed to China for zero orders in return so far. I'm not sure what the situation is with the Airbus takeover.

Boeing 737 with no assembly line in China sold well there.
A220 with no assembly line in China doesn't sell there.

That's what Michael was pointing.

Agree. No question in my mind that availability is hurting A320NEO sales.
I just wonder if we're going to see something similar to the 787 once Airbus have waved a magic wand over the production processes and really ramp up both numbers and efficiency...
I get the feeling that now that the engine issues are coming under control, and new-build gliders are a much rarer site, that 2019 will be a good year for the NEO

Good question! The term has an extremely negative conotation in the anglo-american world only because of William III.

Totally contrary to that, in continental Europe "orange" persons are generally percieved positively. For instance King Willem-Alexander, son of Queen Beatrix who also bear the title of a Prince/Princess of Orange.

Surprised to see new A319s on the mix.

Curious why China has kept away from the A220 so far. Don't they produce parts for it, or is that not the case anymore?

I have two hypothetical guess on this.

1. The clogging of airport. China air transport has grown tremendously for past two decades, more locals are taking into the air. Rather than buying smaller airplane like A220, it would be better off to buy larger ones. They have A380 on CTN to PVG, run multiple A330 flight from PVG to PEK daily. Airports will be more congested and more needs to be built.

2. The political saga. Huawei's boss daughter is being held currently in Canada for breaching US sanction on Iran. Like it or not, business is intertwined with politics, more so in Asia. Until the saga is done and dusted, there won't be any A220 in China anytime soon (glad to be proven wrong if it does happen). It is not certified to fly into Tibet, hence A319 will take front seat. I know A220 is "Airbus product" now, but still it is originated from Canada at inception.
