F9 adds LAS-CLT

Thu Mar 28, 2019 12:54 am

A good alternative to Americans typically high fees on the same route.
Part of me wonders if this is preemptive move against Spirit.

Also another RON on an already crammed Concourse A.

Depart CLT: 8:35 a.m. Arrive LAS: 10:18 a.m.

AA may have higher fares for ns service from CLT, but they also provide HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS to the local economy, so there’s that.

One daily flight won't change this. A little competition is good..and won't hurt AA's hub (or the local economy) one bit.

Typically high fees on American, LOL. Looking up numerous dates on CLT-LAS for American. $360 roundtrip seems to be the average price I'm seeing. Pretty reasonable price with the luxury of 5 flights per day imo.

This flight and along with NK starting service in June will tap more into the local CLT market. Which is great.

Only part of you wonders? Lol. There’s quite a rivalry between NK and F9. No doubt that’s a factor. Wil AA respond?

You don't think lower fares for the community is more important than AA wages to 11,500 employees? Would you argue for doubling fares and giving everybody a raise?

I’m surprised it’s not a red eye from Vegas F9 Keeps those planes moving.

The more provocative issue on this thread: sure aa is absolutely fantastic for Charlotte economy and prestige and ability to draw business but it’s likely local travelers pay a “tax” in the form of higher airfares than non hubs. Is it worth it? I don’t live there but I think I’d welcome F9 and NK expansion with open arms and support them both whenever possible. But that’s just me.

As a Charlottean, I welcome the alternatives and competition. Hopefully this will lead tolower fares at some point. I believe this is the longest non-AA domestic route from Charlotte and first non-AA transcon?

it's great to see ULCC finally taking some cracks at CLT.

Question, why doesn't CLT board from the hard stands off of the new terminal A? Seems like an easy opportunity to add 2 or 3 remote gates there.

Nice to see the hometown get more low fares and hopefully more to come as A expands. A few routes on key destinations won’t impact AA in the slightest.

Former Charlottean (now in DC.) I agree with this and I think that’s a sentiment amongst many in CLT. Everyone appreciates the non-stops and the economic impact of the airport. Delta used to seem to be a cheaper alternative for me. I’ve always felt like high fares on routes were better than no route at all.

FL used to serve ATL nonstop from CLT in addition to DL and US prior to the WN-FL merger, but WN dropped FL CLT-ATL nonstop service when it switched CLT over to the Southwest brand from the AirTran brand.
