SkyWest to End JAC Ground Handling

Fri Mar 29, 2019 12:17 am

SkyWest, the longtime ground handling contractor for Delta and United at the Jackson Hole Airport, will end both contracts September 4th. The two airlines account for more than two thirds of all traffic at JAC and it will be interesting to see who bids. The other current ground handler is Envoy for American. Not sure who handles the seasonal Frontier flights these days but it used to be ATS.

The article below attributes it to the large number of mainline flights versus frequent SkyWest metal in years past. Jackson Hole also struggles with tough labor and housing shortages.

CDC
CPR
CYS
FCA
JAC
HYS
IDA
LBF
LBL
PBG
PRC
PSC
SHD
SWF

It's entirely possible that Skywest has lost one of it's two contracts at JAC, and decided it didn't make financial sense to keep the other. United has been moving work to it's wholly owned subsidiary (United Ground Express). Who know what DL would be doing now that that they've sold off DGS. But it's not like either carrier would be turning the station into a mainline location.

They didn’t lose them, they gave them up. And DL still owns a minority stake in the new company
