Last oportunity to fly a Tu134 May 2019

Sun Mar 31, 2019 8:38 am

Alrosa is the only operator of Tu134 (besides Air Koryo if I'm not mistaken).
They published in Instagram of the last ever flight (onboard RA-65690) will be on the route MJZ-IKT-MJZ (Mirny to Irkutsk) on the 18th and 20th of May. I'm not sure if they plan two return trip or just one (go there, spend two days, return).
Anyway, if you haven't done it, consider doing it.
Is the best aircaft ever to be built.

Also, you could try to connect with the only Tu154 available for passengers in Russia. I did last year the route MJZ-IKT (TU3), IKT-PYJ (AN4), PYJ-DME (TU5). Maybe something like that can be done.
On the website, I just found MJZ-IKT (ow 18th) for less than 150U$S. Is not expensive for this bird.
I suggest you do. And, if we organize a group, that would be awesome!

Plus, Mirny and Irkutsk are interesting places to visit...

Hi:Back In eighties I flew a lot of 134 and 154B2 from Borispol to Vnukovo and back.
While 134 were small and noisy, do not imagine Russia w/o 154s..

They call them whistle because of shape and noise produced by the engines on acceleration.

Wow, I wish I could get to fly on both of those types before they vanish from the skies, sadly it's not going to be. :(

I have been lucky enough to fly both the 134 and the 154, though at the time I have to say my experience of the plane was not exactly a treat.

My only flight on the 134 was back in the late 1980s on an Aeroflot charter from LGW to Moscow [I was travelling with three others and I was the only one to have a life jacket and we were informed by a sign above the over wing exit ( there was no safety announcement before we took off) that in the event of an emergency we should use the emergency rope) and I am ashamed to say I don't recall which Moscow airport we flew into!

The return journey was on the 154 from Leningrad [as it was then] to Gatwick which had life jackets and safety announcements. My second 154 was from Xi'an to Guilin - it was a combi aircraft and boarding was delayed, as the China Tourist Authority man helpfully told us, 'while they screw the seats in', which didn't sort of instill a lot of confidence.

It's not as excited as TU-144 though.

What a shame, I am flying to Novosibirsk on the 20th May and would loved to have taken a detour via Mirny and Irkutsk. I managed to fly on a Tu-154 many years ago as a child, but the Tu-134 always escaped my grasp.

I hope you enjoy your flights.

You definitely flew into Sheremetyevo SVO. And with a likelyhood of 99.99% you wemt through the terminal that at that time had been called Sheremetyevo-2.
