Looks to be what it is. Ariel survey work. Looks to be a similar flight path to when Sirius minerals were overflying our house in 2012, they were measuring the local variation in gravity.

Perhaps they were doing high resolution optical scans of the terrain around the airport for surveying reasons. The spaceshuttle did this around the world. Thats where the google earth terrain data mostly comes from.
NOAA does similar scans with twin otters over the oceans. Ive seen them a couple times scanning waters off the NJ shore at about 1000-2000 ft.

On his release from Winchester Prison he walked out wearing only footwear, once again breaching the ASBO, and in October 2014 he was sentenced to a further two and a half years in prison
Regarding G-RVNK, the a/c owners (Ravenair) offer aerial surveys on their website; maybe they are trying to track down the last known wild haggis?

Not to be pedantic, but Aerial Surveying as a method covers pretty much all of what you mentioned.

All over the country? I think you’re in the wrong country for this one. I don’t think the USDA do many flights over Glasgow.

Obviously not, which is probably why I didn't include those things in the same sentence. One was a statement, the other was relating my personal experience.

Unusual compared to most flight paths that we tend to pay attention to, i.e. straight lines, left/right turns and neverending roundabouts for some "obscur" reasons, the flight path on the image clearly depict a pattern.
