Has any airline brought back a livery after it was retired?

Mon Apr 01, 2019 6:40 pm

After looking at the BA Landor retro 747 and thinking it still looks relevant today I wondered if any airline has adopted a livery it previously retired.

Retro liveries excluded, are there any known examples?

That ''new'' AI livery is a disgrace to the concept of design. I think it may even be worse than Utair.

Aeroflot. If memory serves correctly they had an all-New livery on their A310s, but dropped it. They also had that rather bizarre purple confetti/smudge on the engines and tail on their 777s and 737s at one point, but I don’t think either of those aircraft saw the full old Soviet-style livery. Obviously that livery didn’t last either.

The new Delta livery between the Black/Red and current livery was called "Deltaflot" for this reason. Aeroflot also had a new livery post-collapse of the Soviet Union which didn't last long either.

What was the reason for going back? the new one was really cool (I like orange-reddish liveries like Boeings 747-8)

Management change that preferred the old livery. New livery never went into service and the 777 and 737 painted were repainted before delivery.

Bummer! I remember when it got oout, no wonder I didn't see it anymore. They probably spent thousands in development, but actually nailed it, and then some twat who lilke cheatlines * went back to the old one

Are you quite certain that's not just wishful thinking? Mind you I'm all for it because I thought the Globe/Deathstar livery was drab and dour even back when it was exclusively Continental's.

As noted, Biman adopted a new logo and livery in 2010 and then there was an election and the new government scrapped it.

IMO, that brief new Teague livery was much more modern and appealing.

The livery applied on the A310s was part of the Aeroflot-Russian International Airlines brand meant to shake off its shady Soviet reputation. There was no hammer and sickle, and it made more use of the Russian national colors instead of the drab SU cheatline.

New Frontier brought back a form of the old Frontier’s logo, though the livery is...something else.
