Does Ryanair need a new livery?

Thu Apr 04, 2019 4:04 pm

It's been around for a while now - it's not the worst, but could maybe do with a modern twist, here's my idea :-)

Maybe they do, maybe they don't. However, you should consider this is Ryanair. A new livery costs money, but doesn't bring in any additional revenue. As long as the old livery is still functional, why change it?

I actually like Ryanair's current livery, it has some color and isn't exactly the same like all other major european airlines.

They could use a livery refresh, but i'm sure that's at the bottom of their to-do list.

I think they should completely change their livery and make it less heavy by adding some more white and using less dark blue.

I think it's probably the only thing about them that doesn't scream cheap.

What is the difference between their current livery, and the one posted on the OP?

The yellow cheatline seems brighter, but that's all.

It's subtle changes, but the cheat line is lower and follows a different curve, the winglets also have a different design, and the angel is larger and more aligned on the tail.

Hopefully this little before and after should make it clearer :-)

I've seen pictures of Ryanair planes lined up with the angels in more than one position lol. Also, I think their current livery is fine, but the interior is painful on the eyes with all the bright yellow and dark blue, especially on the older planes. The newer ones with the sky interior aren't quite as bad I think, but I've only flown on one of those once or twice, and it's been quite a while since then so I can't remember that well.

Spirit changed their livery 3 times in 10 years, though they’re certainly taking their sweet time with repaints.

Since I had never seen the RyanAir livery I googled and the image was almost same as OP's posted image...(with very slight changes)

So if you are actually going to talk about a livery change, might as well actually "change" it. Unless there is a specific business need or re-brand necessary - such a minute change would definitely make no sense as majority of public would not even notice a difference at first glance.

It's iconic, no reason to change it and waste money on it

Ryanair alters its livery more frequently than most people realise. The changes are small but effective in keeping the whole look fresh. The livery has essentially been various versions of the same design since the mid-90s; the blue belly with a yellow stripe, blue engines, blue tail and flying angel logo.

The current iteration features a more curved blue belly and yellow stripe and huge billboard titles. Since 2014, in preparation of its 30th birthday, Ryanair has tilted the angel to face slightly more upwards like it did when it was first originally introduced. The titles were also enlarged even more and letters spaced further apart. They also infamously gave the angel a boob job a few years previously!

Overall I think the current livery is pretty good, it’s to the point and bold but avoids looking tacky. Any future update needn’t be massive.

Like Ryanair or not, people identify with their brand so why mess it?

Do they need a new livery? Probably not, they can do just as well implementing small, cost effective enhancements.

And yet they have just revealed a whole new livery and identity for their Polish division...

IMO their livery is a masterpiece and timeless. No need for a new livery, in my opinion ...
