If they really want to sell J on this flight they need to make it connect to SYD, BNE & AKL as SYD is a global city with lots of multinationals and there's lots of consulting firms in BOS.
HA isn’t trying to connect people over HNL to Australia. They are trying to bring people to Hawaii.
With WN entering the Hawaii market they very well may need to consider offering connections to supplement their current strategy.
HNL s the only market from US where you can fly nonstop to GUM. A lot of people try to go via TYO, but that is not a valid a Freedom flight for Americans, unless they clear Japanese customs and have to spend a minimum number of hours in Japan. Most only works on a US Airline SFO NRT GUM. Can not fly SFO NRT GUM on JL/NH. SFO HNL GUM on UA is the most logical option (and quickest). PR used to make a tech stop from SFO/LAX with A340s, but could not carry local traffic. Purely tech/fuel stop.
