Southwest commercial with a B6 aircraft in the background

Sun Apr 07, 2019 8:03 pm

I was watching the Miami Marlins on Fox Sports today and I noticed something interesting about a commercial for Southwest that was being aired. For some reason I re-winded the commercial and upon playing it back (slowly) I noticed a JetBlue aircraft in the background parked next to a Southwest plane. Not sure where this part of the commercial was filmed but it looked like it might have been HOU.

Not the most important thing going on in the world of aviation but it was fun to see a small detail that was not caught in the editing process. Who else has seen this commercial?

That must mean they’re about to merge.

I haven't seen that ad but on occasion that does happen.

A BA advert a few years ago eddied the BA livery onto images of Virgin 747s. Small problem is they forgot to edit the engine cowling shape so they were GE powered vs RR. Someone actually pointed that out and and BA had to re-edit the images.

I also saw a WN gate at [insert random WN airport] that was striped for A320s, so merger basically confirmed at this point.

(I know you’re just joking btw)

Ahh, you beat me to it. Yep it's a sure sign that a merger is about to happen. Southwest will finally have the Airbus, where do you think they will fly them? When are they going to start painting them in Southwest colors?? This is unreal, I never thought I would see this happen.................Now onto reality people, it's probably just an error that nobody caught. Nothing to see here, no merger no nothing.

Maybe that’s why Southwest painted their planes Canyon Blue in 2001?

The last other airline they had in a commercial, they acquired said airline.

How do you decipher a merger from this? No wonder this site is on the decline.

If the site is on the decline, it's because people don't have a sense of humor anymore.

Exactly where I was thinking to go, when I opened the thread. Cue editing of A-320 in WN colors & 737's in B6 colors. I am pleased to see funny & sarcasm is still around here. Hysterical ...

This commercial was filmed entirely at FLL (mostly in the A concourse). Gate A6 handles jetBlue arrivals from Cancun and Cuba. A7 is a common use gate. You are looking at A6 in the shot. I don't know why they didn't wait to film this shot...should be a continuity department thing.

No, wasn't that because of the bet between Herb and Neeleman? He'd paint his planes blue if B6 lasted 1 year.

A BA advert a few years ago eddied the BA livery onto images of Virgin 747s. Small problem is they forgot to edit the engine cowling shape so they were GE powered vs RR. Someone actually pointed that out and and BA had to re-edit the images.

Question about this, why did BA have people spend time editing their livery onto Virgin 747s when they could have used their own?

BA (and most other major companies) don't do ad work in house. Whatever company BA used to create the ad probably just found an image of a 747 and modded it from there...most images you see in ads, even ones that look like photographs, have been modded in some way. The VS aircraft image was probably at the right angle, distance, lighting ect and its easy enough to change the livery.

It was this campaign and ad...at :57 seconds there is a heavily modded shot of 747s pulled up to T5. Originally those aircraft had GE engines...If I get a chance I will hunt around tonight to see if I can find a copy of the ad before they edited the RR engines onto the plane.

That's right. Last time I joked about something, my post was removed for being "off topic".
