What are the consequences on Airbus if tariffs are imposed?

A350s become more expensive as free, Made in America A320s and A220s are tacked on to orders to undermine said tariffs.

Say goodbye to any Boeing order in Europe I guess? Alternatively, Airbus can point a middle finger at US and shut down its plant in Mobile?

Seriously, all these tariff BS is going to kill the global economy with nobody winning.

Tariffs are not just if finished products. Boeing uses imports for just about the entirety of the 787. Both Airbus and Boeing do a lot of cross-border trade in every step of the process.

this is all bluster. He is looking for a better trade deal and a settlement. Otherwise, the market will react and then he will back off. Trade wars are bad on everyone.

Imagine that UE respond in kind. That will be a real laugh. Somebody remind to this idiot that US Aviation industry is a big supplier to Airbus.

Seems like a shallow attempt to keep illegally-subsidized Boeing and their sales afloat during the MAX crisis. This "government" is the laughing stock of the world.

As per Reuters, the EU is already busy compiling a list targeting Boeing with tariffs, Tit for tat.

Hopefully we will soon have someone in the White House whose policy is not based on mine is bigger than yours thinking.

Every time he/they make these hollow threats the stock markets go down. How many million pensioners have had their pension lump sums crystallize during the last two years while Trump has been depressing stock markets around the world. Great fun for day traders, not so much for pension funds and their members.
My shares are down €5k on the day.

The US should manufacture good products rather than relying on lawyers to make money.

Today it’s just a trade war.. but tomorrow? ... never would I have thought that this will happen.

Trump is doing a great job to keep future Boeing sales away from European airlines. Europe is such a small insignificant market with barely any airlines, right?

If those tariffs come into force in a few months and if rumours are true that the MAX can be grounded for 6 to 9 months does that mean that any European airline (like Ryanair) would have to pay the increased tariffs to accept delivery of the MAXes?

Good chance for Boeing. For every model Boeing is more and more behind and the 737 max reached the limit, not being able to compete with the totally superior A320. Tariffs is their only hope.

i thought the boeing wto case was still undergoing?

Well, if those tariffs are imposed, then only A350 and A330neo would be impacted, as A320 and A220 are assembled in the States. In other words, only DL would pay those tariffs. UA would receive their A359s after Trump leaves office, so no worries for them!

Umm...it's not just the planes, though. The A320/A220 maybe assembled in US, but in the case of tariffs, those components for the planes will likely fall under the tariff also.

Which is why trade war is so idiotic - the intertwined nature of things mean for every "winner" (if even that) in such war, there are many more "losers" = jobs loss = economic loss.

Unfortunately with this admin, my fixed version of your statement is more likely from previous trade "negotiations". I mean as an example of him ignoring the market, he still has his (ILLEGAL)"national security" tariffs on Steel and Aluminum in place against Canada despite Ford, Lockheed, GM, Amerpipe, GE, Maytag and scores of others posting 7-8-9-10 figure losses tied to them. Boeing hasn't exactly been happy about the Aluminum tariff either, but they aren't exactly in good esteem north of the border right now either.

This seems to be divided along ideological lines rather than Boeing vs Airbus as is usual here. Stunning.

This is an inherent political economic argument, has nothing to do with aviation.

So indeed Boeing will be hit with tariffs from the EU side or at least the EU will put the same amount of tariffs on US goods. So nobody wins, everybody looses. Again the loose - loose strategy in place with a populist.

Any tariffs are just a hidden tax that American consumers will eventually pay. I guess the $trillion deficit will be reduced by 0.01% at least or will the duties just be re-directed back to Boeing as additional military purchases/subsidies? At the end of the day the tariffs are simply government interference in the free market. Nice.
