United starting IAD-RSW/SRQ, extending MIA

Wed Apr 10, 2019 10:07 pm

Nice adds I think both have not been served in a while

Flight times are perfect both ways for Atlantic connections

Great adds. United's presence is quite small in Florida but I'm glad they decided to add on.

I've always felt that RSW and probably SRQ would work from IAD. Considering the timings, they allow for good connections, too.

And I won't surprised if MIA goes year-round pretty soon.

E-175s on IAD-SRQ and 737/A320s on IAD-RSW. Per Google flights.

Honestly, I’m surprised RSW isn’t a B738, or at least at the minimum a B737. I’m guessing it will definitely be upgauged come next year’s spring break vacation though.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the frequencies eventually goes up to a 738. IAD-FLL has gone up to an 2x on an A320 and 738, and I think they sometimes even run a 739 on some days. An dummy search on 4/17 shows IAD-MIA as a 739, too. I'm pretty sure that started off as an A319 so that one must be doing well too. My bet is that the 73G will eventually be upgauged to a 738, probably sometime in 2020 IMO.

Nice adds for UA at IAD...definitely part of a large strengthening of connecting flows through IAD. It's funny though that RSW/SRQ are year-round, but MIA will remain seasonal.

UA had allowed IAD-Florida to shrivel down to almost nothing at one point, so finally undoing that mistake.

I bet SRQ will go to a 737 in decent time. If SRQ expects 15-20% of the flights to bring international connecting visitors there will be a need for something bigger then a E175.

I am surprised that UA didn't already fly IAD-RSW. UA has two ORD-RSW flights daily in winter and has for years. Is it because SW Florida is more of a Midwestern destination?

I work in the RSW area but often spend weekends in Miami and the presence of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin license plates during season November-March is incredible, and much more present than in MIA where there isn't such an apparent on/off season.

With all the family I have in the Northern VA area I highly welcome these flights.
