KATL - A brown theme?

Thu Apr 11, 2019 11:52 pm

Gang - landed in ATL Tuesday night for the first time in awhile. Last time I was there they were replacing/expanding the windows and raising the ceilings. Looks great. But as we pulled to the gate, it looked like the outside walls of Terminal B had been painted a dark grey or brown. Then when I took of this morning in daylight it looked like other parts of the terminal had been. Am I crazy?

I'm just glad they got rid of that ugly orange.

You can still see the orange on D and E concourse. I dont know when they will upgrade those concourses. But so much construction going on at the airport. Its hard to keep up.

OK, so you're saying Terms T, A, B and C have changed color. But brown, or whatever it is???? Those terminals are ugly enough. Make them a dark color and they'll look like army barracks. The orange wasn't great but...I'll have to look for photos.

T, A, B, C have been renovated and are not a dark gray/brown color.

D, E still have the beige and orange 1980s exterior look.

And outside of av geeks, no one really cares.

IKR...the orange and beige read you're in ATL. But now its more grey with the modernization going on. Eventually all concourses will sport that dark grey color.

So, basically, the entire airport is being converted to a color that doesn't show dirt .... ;-)

This is the best I can find on the internet at the moment:

As others has said it is dark grey, no brown. Most of the concourses are like this now. It’s not terrible, but I miss the Georgia clay red-orange. The new interiors are much better though.

Fun fact. The panels at Hartsfield-Jackson were originally red (as in red Georgia clay). Over the years the red turned into the orange.

So was the tan exterior painted, or a new facade?

WOW! You are right! Looking at old pics from the 80s, it was red.

Brand new. There are lots more windows going in. It really makes the terminal interiors much more inviting.
Careful, doors are closing, and will not reopen. Please wait for the next train.

Better than BWI’s all black concourses.

From the pictures you provided I definitely think it gives the concourses a more modern feel. The concourse with the WN jet looks like it was built just a few years ago, bottom up. I like it, though I seem to be in the minority here.
