Silver airways flying the ATR now?

Sat Apr 13, 2019 8:01 pm

I was in Orlando earlier in the week, and saw a Silver Airways ATR take off. According to flight aware, it was going to FLL. Was this a revenue flight, or just a proving run? I haven't seen anything on their website, everything is still listed as Saab 340's. I would like to plan a trip on them once they have the ATR in scheduled service, but so far I see nothing in their schedules. It's been a long time coming. The ATR that's been sitting in FLL has even started to fade!

It flew recently FLL-TPA-PNS-TPA-FLL, with a 9xxx flight number. Presumably still doing test runs on it at the various airports it plans to fly to.

last year I saw N400SV sitting at the hanger in MCO for about 2 weeks....why aren't they flying them....Planespotters.net show's they have 3 ATR's now and
that they are active....I would like to fly it as well....how long does testing take....

It looks like today might be the first day of revenue service for the ATR. Silver hinted at it on their social media recently.

FlightRadar shows N400SV doing FLL-EYW-MCO today...I don't see it on there yet, but I think it's also scheduled to do MCO-FLL-PNS overnighting at PNS. I'm sure they want one on the HSV-MCO route as well, so I wouldn't be surprised to soon see a second one doing HSV-MCO-EYW-FLL-MCO-HSV or something similar.

Yes - I spotted a Flamingo at NAS recently. Was great to see Silver in its new colors.

Saw the flamingo in FLL operating last week . Looked good. I wish my regional had been all ATRs and no RJs 20 years ago.

Official release:
https://www.silverairways.com/about-silver/press-room/article/2019/04/22/newly-transformed-and-customer-focused-silver-airways-makes-history-with-first-new-atr-600-series-flight-in-united-states

Says they are taking 5 more 42s and 3 72s this year. Total of 20 by end of 2020. Will be interesting to see where the 72s get deployed.

I flew Silver for the first time last month and had really poor experiences. FLL-EYW-MCO

Terrible delays on each of the flights, lack of information/communication, unprofessional staff, etc...

I have no intention of flying with them again.

Thanks for the review but what does any of that have to do with the ATR fleet?

Are the ATRs fast enough that we could see them go to some more northerly airports? I know ATRs aren’t the quickest airplanes out there but I would think that as Silver expands they will need to begin to deploy them on longer routes. Then again, maybe they have plans for another fleet type someday who knows.

Because the flight was scheduled to be a SAAB but was substituted with an ATR, Flightaware didn't catch the update when the flight plan was filed.

Pink isn't the best color choice for an airline that operates in a sun-heavy region. Remember how bad all of the old Mesaba Saabs looked in the old mostly-red NW livery?

One of the reasons why we have so many "eurowhite" liveries now is because white doesn't fade.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

Love the new ATR's. How far north are they expected to fly? Curious to see if Silver stays in FL and the Bahamas, or expands further into the SE and Caribbean.
