LATAM Perú to operate 787-9s

Thu Apr 25, 2019 3:13 am

LATAM will base 2 Boeing 787-9 in Lima from late September.

The first route that will see the 789 is LIM-MAD-LIM, which is currently operated on the 767-300ER.

Other routes, such as LIM-BCN-LIM and LIM-LAX-LIM, are expected to be upgauged to the 787-9.

On a related note, LP is set to relaunch the LIM-Brasília-LIM route from October 1.

This is to cover for the 763 retirement, correct?
Stuck at age 15 thanks to the certification date of the A320-200 and my parents' decision to postpone having a kid by 3 years. At least there's Dignitas...

Not even anywhere close. It'll be 2025 before you start hearing about LATAM 763 retirements.

Awesome! Lima continues to prove itself as a valuable asset for LATAM. The product offered on the 787 is better suited to compete with IB on the lucrative MAD route.

If LAX is to be upgauged to 787 then I hope JFK would be as well.

Actually JFK already sees the 787-9 as the JFK-LIM-SCL route is operated by LATAM Chile.

LATAM Perú does not currently operate to/from New York.

The route requires 1.5 planes to operate daily, so with just two aircraft it is only going to be MAD for now. Both flights are red eyes.

BCN would also require 1.5 planes and LAX 1.

So they would need 4-5 planes to cover these 3 destinations.

Yes, those 2 Boeing 787-9 will be deployed on the LIM-MAD-LIM route and maybe a LIM-SCL-LIM rotation.

The 767-300ER will continue to be the backbone of LP's long-haul operation.
