Their cost cutting is hitting them. Looks like they've started to do their own "Project Oasis" like AA.

They'll be installing slimline seats. No mention on the seat pitch.

Does this mean they have no cash to put in a bid for JET AIRWAYS? (The due date to submit a bid is May 10)

Well considering they are kind of to blame for what happens to Jet I would hazard a big no!
My views are my own and do not reflect any other person or organisation.

Another airline where you are screwed if you don't have your tablet with you...

They probably can't afford to pay for them.

Quite unbelievable that this is the airline that had tons of money at it's hands some time ago and managed to burn it in an incredible speed and now needs to cut its service level

I personally have no problem with it, I use my own smartphone or laptop with my own selection of entertainment during flight. Eventually people are going to prefer inflight wifi over limited selection in airplane TVs.

That's a big step backwards.
First to fly the 787-9

These A320/A321 won't have wifi, only streaming

So sooner rather than later they will be competing for connecting passengers with Air Arabia and flydubai rather than with Qatar, Emirates, Oman Air...

Is that also a smaller tray table?

Certainly looks like it, I wouldn't be surprised if they went full BoB in economy class. They have already downsized their meals with the removal of dessert and butter (at least on long-haul flights).

I agree - personally, on short haul, I'd much prefer using my own laptop/tablet. I find seatback TV's to often be slow and occasionally have issues. Quite a few flights I've been on they've had to "reboot" the system. Plus, they don't age well. Look at the ones UA was putting in their first 787's compared to their new ones. Or hell, look at the ancient ones that BA has on many of their planes. Unless carriers plan on upgrading every 8-10 years, it's easier and cheaper to just have everyone BYOD and go from there.

Times must be really tough if they can't afford butter on a long haul flight

Why is this being billed as an "upgrade" on aviation blogs
Interesting how every thread is spammed with "bring back paid membership, there are too many spammers"

Still bigger than Frontier’s tray tables, right?

BAD news. Will probably avoid EY in the future. There are better options available at or around the same cost, with frankly better service. Personally I tend to travel light and avoid taking my iPad with me, so thumbs down big time for me.
The narrative around these 'improvements' is also particularly irritating to me. Truly awfully bad PR there.

they are just going to turn into Gulf Air 2.0 at this point .. network shrinking service shrinking .... they are even loosing on their local AD demand I've met lots of locals from Abu Dhabi that would rather drive to dxb and fly emirates ..

their fares are not the cheapest either matching EK QR or higher with service reduced and longer layovers and no real alliance so no miles ..

i worked for Etihad for 3 years in manchester, when i first started there everything was fine and a great airline to work for, however near the end the cost cutting affected us all, they moved there call centre from manchester to belgrade, hardly trained any agents up there so there customer service would of gone down the pan, then changing staff in AUH to handling agents, such a shame an airline with great potential.

Stepping off a 777 and connecting to an a320 flight will be similar to connecting SQ to MI - in real terms it’s probably acceptable to most passengers, but still a perceived downgrade.

This is somewhat normal in most parts of the world. I think passengers in the Middle East have been spoilt with the service offered by home carriers so it feels like a tragedy.

Seriously. So dramatic with "Well I'm never going to fly them now!" when they removed TVs on just their narrowbodies...

I was Cabin Crew for Etihad and left back in 2017 just as the sh*t was hitting the fan. So many negative changes that it made no sense to stay. What a shame because at one point in time it was quite amazing.
