First Delta A330neo & Etihad A350-1000 Spotted Flying

Tue May 07, 2019 4:03 pm

It’s been a busy day in Toulouse. After Delta’s first Airbus A330-900neo took off on its maiden flight, Etihad’s first A350-1000 followed suit!

The Etihad -1000 looks insanely beautiful. Too bad the airline is only committing to taking delivery of 5 planes out of the 20 it had ordered.

Here are the links to the stories and photos:

Delta A330neo:

Etihad A350-1000:

Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous!

a330neo looks great. the a350 looks kind off to me. it's just too long, reminds me of the a346.

What are the benefits of being a launch customer? Isn't Delta the Launch customer for the A330neo??

TAP Portugal was the launch customer for the Neo and have been flying it since last December.

The advantages of being a launch customer are a slight discount, the disadvantages are that you have to accept less reliable, non standard or poorer performing aircraft which may be delivered late.

Will EY dedicate their A35K to specific routes with only 5 aircraft? Will they have lavish premium cabins or will they be people-haulers with 400 seats?
Come, fly the prevailing winds with me

A330 looks a bit dated , A350 looks really good and elegant and that size is appropriate much like A321. If I was running an airline , it would be an easy choice

I'd suspect the A35K will have the same cabins as the 787-9. According to the Wiki, Etihad will get 20 -1000s overall, so they'll likely use them to replace the 777-300ER fleet and will probably have both with-First and without-First subfleets.

Oh, and speaking of the photographs... Oh dear sweet god that EY A35K is exceptionally sexy!

Do all A350s have the triple axle main gear, or only the -1000s?

It's only on the A350-1000. The A359 has a 4 wheel splayed out landing gear.

I can see how the A330ceo looks a bit dated, but the A330neo I think looks very modern and A350/B787-like with the bigger engines and new winglets. The new winglets combined with the “mask” makes the plane look curvy and sleek like the A350/B787, thus making it look more modern. Can’t wait to see some nighttime shots of the plane with colorful windows from the interior mood lighting.

Completely agree. The A330 has always looked utilitarian to me. Even this neo model is not really interesting to me. I love the dramatic swoop of the wings on the A350. Plus, the sloped forehead of the A350 has grown on me. I flew SFO-SIN on one and it's a wonderful plane.

I like the looks of the A330ceo better than than the neo. The larger engines are the only improvement the neo has, but the mask is totally unnecessary and makes the aircraft look worse. The winglets appear to be stuck on as an afterthought (which they actually are) and don't seem to fit to the wing. Compare that to the winglet of the A350! Much more graceful and an integral part of the wing design.

The EY livery makes every aircraft beautiful, but on the A35K it really really stands out. Very beautiful indeed, I never thought I would say that when the A350 was launched!

A330 ceo used to be outdated while A330 neo just looks dated which it is and somehow not that proportional if I can say it but the new engines help it a lot

Airbus makes some stunning airplanes. The new wing tips and larger engines really update and improve the already good looking A330. And the A350 looks really good, especially with the longer fuselage of the 35J.

Agree 100%, the neo looks ugly with those winglets and the mask borrowed from the trash panda.
