Looks like S2-AGQ will not be flying again. Aircraft reportedly came off the runway and the rear fuselage is split in two.

The fuselage section at the front has also split, so the aircraft is in three pieces with the right hand wing also collapsing along with the undercarriage

Yes, more than duct tape needed there.

Third hull loss this week ... not a good one for air safety!

The good part is that it seems like it's mostly just minor injuries.

Oh well, I guess we can safely say that this is a write off? :duck:

Airplane leased from Smart Aviation of Egypt. One of their two planes. Ouch.

Terrible news, and a terrible year for aviation so far. Let's hope no fatalities...

Wow! the photos in the link say "slipped" off the runway, but the Q-400 is busted up pretty bad, that is a hell of a slip!
Hope everyone is fine.

Curious how the "these things always come in threes" people in the Challenger 600 crash thread account for this one. Is this the start of a new 3?

Jesus, another hull loss? Well let's tally up the past week or so: The JAX 738 incident, the Challenger crash in Mexico, the helo that went into the Chesapeake bay, now this? Bad week for aviation.

I was actually curious which "three" they were referring to. I mean, is there a fixed timeframe to which the count of three applies, or does it just reset every time you hit three?
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word.
There is no 787-800, nor 787-900 or 747-800. It's 787-8, 787-9, and 747-8.
A321neoLR is also unnecessary. It's simply A321LR.

Not to mention the SSJ100 and a few GA incidents.

Don't forget the Aeroflot SSJ.

Definitely not a good week for aviation. It could be worse (In July 2014, it's MH17, then Transasia ATR, just to follow the next day by Air Algerie 5017). At least this is just a hull loss with no loss of life.

I remember MH17 but not the others. Yeah I put the SSJ in above. Thank God it's just a hull loss. The media's gonna be all over this.

Unlikely there will be very much media coverage on this in North America.

Doubtful. If it's a crash with fatalities, then yes, it would probably hit the news. But it's not.

Just flip things around - you probably wouldn't see tons of report of that MD88 runway excursion at LGA a few years back in news outside the US, either. And this is not that Pegasus Airlines 737 that was sitting on the cliff at TZX (Trabzon), either (The pictures make that runway excursion "sensational" enough that news pick up on it worldwide).

Plus the Buffalo DC-3 the week prior. Again fortunately with no injuries 9km short of YHY/Hay River.

Does Yangon's rwy 21 have any sort of Runway End Safety Areas (RESA)?
