New United Safety Video - Spiderman Theme

Mon May 13, 2019 3:43 pm

Looks like UA just released a very good new Spider-Man themed safety video with the new branding. Check it out...

So unprofessional. Started when co came on board. Before that they were to the point and none of this" childish try to make fun" of a serious situation. You want to have the passenger take it serious, not laugh and ignore the FA commands when an evacuation process has begun .

Just another example of how low co has taken United.

Wow that was painful to watch. The green screen looks cheap. These are getting way too gimmicky.

This was done with some sort of sponsorship from the studios behind the new Spider Man movie. So there you go, United gets someone else to pay for it and creates a new revenue stream. Go UA!

I love to see all these people complaining about a 2 minute safety video; as if it effects them. I think it a good idea to add a little flare to it so the passengers are interested.

As a United Frequent Flier, I appreciate the regular changes to the safety video. Sure, they could make it super boring and super corporate and show no creativity at all. While that might satisfy some, I think infusing some creativity and changing the video from time to time gets people to pay attention. It works for me, even if I do think the video is cheesy. And if they got someone else to pay for it, even better.

It's good to change things up. I remember the first time I watched the Virgin America Safety Video. I thought how cool and edgy, but after a year I was bored.

As a UA 1K, I'm completely fine with them changing and jazzing up the safety video every now and then.

Was fine when it was the US Olympians in 2016, or the long running global one with various cultures being shown.

If anything, more people actually watch it then a boring standard safety video.

A bit forceful, not as flowing nicely compare to NZ's LOTR/Hobbit safety video.
But I'm all for airlines adding a bit comedy and flare to their mundane safety video.
At least Ned is in the video!

I guess they have to reach middle America one way or another. Why not joke around about safety; they'll sue the airline if it crashes anyway.

Couple Points:

Why are they showing the old BusinessFirst Seat when the 78X has the new Polaris product? See 2:56

Now we know the proportions of the new livery on the 787 / 78X! See 1:20

What a great video! Changes things up compared to all the other airlines safety videos. DL used to have trendy video that made really good press too but now DL videos are back to being lame!

UA frequent flyer here as well. It's cheesy and gets passenger's attention but the safety message is clear, that's what is important. Over the years, many airlines try to outdo one another with elaborate video messages but some of them don't get the safety message across...i.e. EVA Air which is one of the worst safety video.

I know there are those of you that would prefer the old school "funeral type atmosphere" of death and gloom. I for one like to see them upgrade the vids from time to time to catch the attention to those of "todays age", corny? maybe but catchy? yes.

I'm surprised so many people on here like this. I guess it's good they're at least changing it up periodically if they're going to be creative, though I still think it comes off feeling forced. Passengers can only take so much 'cute' once they're on the plane. I think Air France struck the perfect balance of creating a safety video that's creative yet elegant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi4RS7aARSo

Either way, at least United got rid of the absolute worst safety videos they ever had, which were the ones when Jeff Smisek would come on beforehand and lecture passengers about how great his airline was.

Well, as a very UA FF, I do anything and everything possible to drown them out. At FIRST, The Rio one was “kind of cute” but annoying after 350 flights, I hated the Northern Lights, Rhapsody sounded awful in Indian (don’t have the name for it) music. Never understood what the Oscar cameo conversation was about at the NYC marathon- not because it was Spanish either. Hated the German beer hall. Chezzzy! I’d almost be insulted if I was German.
Previously: nothing was worse than the one before with golfing in Scotland TWICE? Never understood the cute baby on the bagpiper???
However, I did love the origami airplanes!!!
The primary issue is they aren’t changed nearly often enough, so after the 100th time of ANYTHING things lose their charm and become something to moan about.
In my personal opinion (just little ol me) UNITED can credibly chest pound when it comes to destinations and diversity. Rather than trying to be funny and failing, they could make one $$$$ National Geographic quality, absolutely gorgeous “global wonders” video, to a really beautiful arrangement of Rhapsody and TAKE OFF!!!
I don’t know how much these videos cost, but 2-3 years is at least 3x longer than they should.

SORRY, usually I’m much more positive!

I hate these cheesy videos. Clearly a marketing ploy for Spiderman and whatever company he's with. Also Spiderman is a crier, I saw him in a movie the other day.

Loved to see the employees happy and excited at the end of the video. I'm sure this is just a transition safety video, even though it wasn't the best, I really appreciate what United is doing to improve its reputation. Way to go!

I agree AF and QF have the best ones. AF is different and fun, QF is a good one that features destinations.

I think we can thank/blame WN for starting the safety video bonanza with their annoying cutesy live FA spiel that has made the You Tube rounds for years.
After that, all carriers thought "we can do that," and the rush to produce their own annoying videos began.
I like those UA 737's and 777's that have PDE (no screens) where the FA's make the announcement/demo.
One other great UA aircraft (UAx) is the 175 where a really professional recorded voice is understandable and authoritative.

Not snow flake - just sloppy branding and lack of attention to detail. Seems coming throughout the demo, and reflects on UAs service standards.

It is quite interesting, but at the same time is very cheesy to me. I think the 2017 safety video was better. https://youtu.be/cuR-l2qCxBc

Delta’s 2016 safety video was also quite cheesy, but not as much as United’s new one.

I love seeing all the people upset over a safety video. It’s entertaining for sure and will be effective in obtaining the attention of passengers who otherwise wouldn’t be paying attention to the safety briefing.

I may be biased however, in saying that it is still nowhere nearly as good as the VX safety dance (RIP).

I think anyone criticizing these videos as being kitchy or cheesy, you might want to see how people are really behaving when things go bad on a plane. The Aeroflot disaster at Moscow is probably one of the most recent examples of where passengers didn't even care about the announcement of "leave your stuff behind in the case of an emergency". At least through these videos, maybe one person will remember that line. And in the case of an incident, tell everyone else to drop their stuff and make their way out.

Oh, and by the way, a lot of this type of video's are going to the big video guy in the sky as many aircraft from these airlines convert their entertainment systems from seat back arrangements to wifi bring your own systems.

I noticed the change in the old BF seat too. Is UA planning to reupholster some of them? Like blue leather with the horizontal stitching?

99% agree. The only addition I would make is that the recorded announcement should be done by an auctioneer.

People will complain about anything United does. If this exact same video featured Delta, it would be nominated for an Academy award from our lovely Airliners.net members.

I like it. It's a safety video. It's designed to get information across, obviously you want to keep it engaging enough to have people at least watch most of it. Most people sleep through the in person demos.
