Aeromar on the verge of bankruptcy

Wed May 15, 2019 8:04 pm

The Mexican regional airline Aeromar is in technical bankruptcy so employee unions are seeking government intervention, with the aim of avoiding another case such as that of Mexicana.

A planned investment by Synergy Group for US $100 million has not fully materialized leaving the airline undercapitalized with big debt burden including back pay to employees.

Things certainly don't look too healthy in Mexico these days.

Oh no! They are the only foreign carrier in my old hometown of McAllen, TX, serving McAllen to Mexico City.

I thought Avianca was investing and turning them into Avianca Mexico.

Synergy is leaving a trail of broke airlines in 3 countries: Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, plus its fair share of responsibility in Avianca Holdings' problems.

What happened, Mr. Efromovich? Shame... it all seemed so promising.

No ownership stake but there is a code share.

The only non US airline UA has a stake in is Azul. The BRW Aviation/Synergy loan is simply a loan backed by Aviancas shares. Theoretically UA could assume direct control of Avianca but they haven’t yet.
