DFW/DAL - Nasty Weather-Holding Patterns-Diversions & Cancellations

Sat May 18, 2019 5:22 pm

It will be a very rough day at both of the Dallas airports. A nasty weather front is passing across the metroplex through the day, and quite a few flights out of DFW are being cancelled. I was looking at flightradar24, some of the flights have been diverted and others are awaiting for weather clearance.

If anyone is interested(like me) in noticing flight holding patterns and diversions its time to have a look on flightradar24.

Qantas #7 Diverting to IAH; Numerous Diversions & Cancellations at DFW

Sat May 18, 2019 6:16 pm

The past 30 minutes in the DFW area have been crazy with winds and rain that seem like a hurricane.

It seems that QF7 has begun to divert to IAH.

AA9240 CDG-DFW 788
AA51 LHR-DFW 77W
AA1343 CUN-DFW 788
LH438 FRA-DFW A333

These 4 have diverted to IAH as well.

There are tons of cancellations as well. DFW has suffered in the past weeks with these spring storms. I wonder how AA’s profit at DFW is holding up.

Looks like QF7 is going to IAH - could be an awfully long diversion, as unlike when they were in PHX, they'll have to fly back through the weather

I bet the crew will "time-out" and the aircraft will have to remain in IAH overnight. Either way, it's going to be rough going for the passengers as well as the AA staff at IAH.

I was supposed to fly MSP-DFW-HOU on AA this morning. Thankfully, they had a weather waiver so I flew out yesterday. Just looking at the flight status my MSP-DFW was cancelled and my DFW-HOU was delayed 2.5 hours and then cancelled. I think I made the right choice.

I know my station is rebooking as many passengers so they don’t have to fly through Dallas today.

Are you sure it’s the first? I’m pretty sure I remember an A220 diverting to AUS a couple weeks ago. Everything else has been to other cities like OKC, TUL, and IAH.

Listening to liveatc.net and DFW approach control to 18R is reporting drone activity at 3,000 feet somewhere along the approach path to 18R.

I’m sure it’ll be a good 3 days before American gets their operation back on track after this.

Well, weathers actually matter. I feel so lucky that my longest delay suffered was just an hour long.

AA got hit at ORD as well, and round 2 for ORD tonight/tomorrow, and more rounds for DFW Monday/Tuesday
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list!

According to Flight Aware, today's scheduled 2235 QF8 DFW-SYD departure is listed as a 1530 departure tomorrow (19 May). You might be right about being the crew timing out and having to wait in IAH until tomorrow to return to SYD.

I haven’t received any other alerts from JetTip saying it has. One was supposed to divert here but got into DFW I believe.

The crew does not fly back to SYD immediately, they have a 30+hour turn.

The aircraft is still in IAH as far as I can tell. Who's gonna fly the plane from IAH to DFW? Surely, the crew that flew the plane from SYD to IAH has timed-out by now. Seems that they will have to wait to fly the aircraft to DFW tomorrow.

Despite the unfortunate circumstance, that would be kinda wild to fly the A380 from Houston to Dallas.

According to flightradar24... it's looking like an arrival of 9:40 into DFW right now.

It's definitely cool to fly a 40 minute flight on the A380. It's happened before with previous QF7 diversions and LH's FRA-IAH A380 diverting to DFW.

Well let's see what happens. I've been watching flightradar24 ground movements at IAH and still have not seen the QF A380 leave yet as far as I can tell.

It appears May 18's QF7 is in the air right now and traveling IAH to DFW. At the time of this post, it appears it had a go around as well.

Wow. The passengers must've had one hell of a flight today. Anything on what caused the go-around?

That's interesting. I wonder what cockpit crew flew the aircraft from IAH to DFW? Anyway, glad its underway to SYD now.

Meanwhile, Lufty's FRA-DFW that was also diverted to IAH made it to DFW around 6p yesterday, however it has not left back to FRA yet. Did they choose to delay the departure until today, or is it AOG?

AOG. Taxied out and returned to gate before throwing in the towel.

It's probable that Flight Aware meant 0330 (as in 3:30 a.m.) as opposed to 15:30 (3:30 p.m.); for whatever reason, it didn't seem clear to me on their end as it just listed 3:30 without a.m. or p.m.

Friend of mine was supposed to be on QF8 yesterday ( 5/18) but cxld early in the morning because her husband fell ill
.
She was crossing her fingers QF8 would have cxld so she could've requested a refund.

Oh well, they now have QF credits they can use up when they travel to SYD over Xmas to visit family
