Alaskan-based Taquan Air has voluntarily suspended operations following a pair of crashes with their floatplanes in a week:

U.S. officials say an Alaska air carrier involved in two deadly floatplane crashes in a week has voluntarily suspended operations.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the halt of "flightseeing" and commuter flights is in place until further notice.

The action comes after the passenger and the pilot of a Beaver floatplane operated by Taquan Air were killed when the aircraft crashed in Metlakatla Harbor on Monday afternoon during a scheduled commuter flight from Ketchikan.

Taquan Air, as noted was one of the airlines involved in the deadly crash roughly a week ago between two floatplanes flying excursion tours for cruise ship passengers.

They need their operating certificate revoked.

Wow, I flew them while visiting Ketchikan on a cruise a few summers ago. Very sad situation.

No cause yet for 2nd accident and were they responsible for first? Quite a jump to revocation.

I could argue my point, there's no need. They will go out of business because no one will fly on them, despite the cause or who's fault it will be.

According to the preliminary report, the pilot — 51-year-old Ron Rash of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania — was a new pilot hired by Taquan Air for the 2019 summer season. The report states that Rash had about 1,600 flight hours. Of those, he had just five hours of experience flying floatplanes.

It's bizarre that someone with five hours of float time can fly passengers commercially. Good example of why we need the FAA to protect us from stupid companies like Taquan who would hire someone with five float hours to fly a Beaver in Alaska.

Which is terribly unlucky, but happens. Regardless of the cause of this specific incident, I'm still concerned over the lack of an hours requirement.
