How successful has he been in turning around then bleeding airline? The airport management takeover he was aiming for didn’t make him popular, but he has been able to turn debt into equity with a number of banks, the government took on more equity, and the agreement with KLM was either renegotiated or reopened for negotiations. Aside from that it’s NYC route (which isn’t a life saver after all) and some optimization and increase in frequency within Africa.

I guess he will take his Polish team with him. Unions should be pleased.

Time for DL (+ AF/KLM?) to create a plan to reorganize KQ with support from the Kenyan government.

Africa is an important market for them all. There is a tremendous opportunity for both Kenya the country and KQ the airline. Kenya needs a stable and profitable national carrier, but first the bribery and corruption need to stop and a strong management team needs to be put in place to reorganize and run the airline.

The unions can either be part of the solution or part of the problem. Their choice.

You should read what Pan Am had to say after they were "encouraged" by the US govt. to assist with Air Zaire in the 70's.

The unions must have made it hell for him. What a shame, I thought he’d stick around to finish turning the airline around. Kenya is a tough place to do clean business.

Yes, in one hand kudos to S. Mikosz for trying to find solutions!
But on the other hand, as a matter of time, this "news" was bound to happen as clearly discussed - a month ago - at replies #12 and #13 by enlightened member Nairobby here:

Here's one link. There's another one I can't find from a book where Pan Am staff basically gave up due to inability to run Air Zaire because of the corruption on such a massive scale.

Maybe they should become a subsidiary of Ethiopian Airlines. :stirthepot:
