finally - very great news and congrats to Boeing and TK!
it's just a pity that they apparently didn't organize a welcoming event (or at least water salute...), but maybe they did and pictures/videos aren't online yet.

in fact, IST-AMS route seems to be tremendously busy end of July.
as you correctly pointed out the morning and evening flights are 789 and even in between they are planning with two 77W rotations on some days:

example for 27July:
TK1951 ISTAMS 0715 0950 /789
TK1957 ISTAMS 1035 1305 /77W
TK1953 ISTAMS 1505 1730 /77W
TK1955 ISTAMS 1910 2145 /789

what's the deal? any special events or just start of holidays in Netherlands?

I'd imagine it would have had the effect of reducing passenger numbers to some of the closer cities such as Ankara, Izmir and Konya because the time taken to get to the new airport makes it less advantageous to fly. At the same time, improvements to roads and railways have reduced journey times to these places. But on the other hand, the new airport has very comfortable and frequent buses direct to almost all parts of Istanbul and the queues are much less, so it's a lot more pleasant to fly from there than the old airport in my opinion.

Congrats on the new 787
( it is a nice coincidence that we share the same username LLA)

I wish TK opted for 2-4-2 like JAL ( I know it is not feasible) but with these big windows I want to sit by the window yet at long flights I tend to go to bathroom a lot and therefore always an aisle passenger on 3-3-3s :)

Nevertheless great looking aircraft

There is a huge Turkish community in the Netherlands and also a lot of connecting and foreign passengers. Similar to Germany but on a smaller scale.

I have one question:
Considering that TK has a strong321 ceo/neo fleet, i wonder why these birds are not deployed on relatively long missions in Africa and asia and CIS, are they too big for that missions? For example u never see 321 at almaty, astana, bishkek and african routes
There should be some issues otherwise considering max crisis 321 could be a good lift, any body to comment?

Well, A321s are not LR versions. Generally speaking about aircraft performance, one of the small performance differences between 737NG vs 320CEO and 737MAX vs 320NEO is that generally, 737 family has a little bit more range and these birds performing better on longer missions, when 320 is doing better at short missions. So, when TK has both A320 and B737 fleets it makes sense them to put A320 more on shorter flights and B737 on longer missions.

I was not following updates on interiors, but it used to be at TK fleet that B737 is more designed for longer flights (with a better business class hard product and IFE screens in economy).

I was actually just thinking myself today and a few days ago why the A321s avoid Astana like the plague and why they aren't put on African routes excluding North Africa. From my experience some of the A321s actually have a slightly better product than the 737s. The A321 sharklets (non-retrofit... TC-JSN onwards) have better IFE screens in economy. I think the older ones have the same screen as the 737s. I personally also found the A321 seats to be a bit more comfortable but it's probably my imagination since I prefer them over 737s. I have 4 flights booked with TK this summer on 3rd July and 9th August. It was meant to be 2 737-900ERs but now it's 4 737-900ERs, a pity!

Name of first 787 decided. A bit odd and controversial naming process.

Very odd indeed. How will they ever name another aircraft? Or, how will the public take them seriously next time if TK asks their opinion?

Well, members of that same public kept asking for it to be named "Eren" in the comments section of the post where TK asked for people's opinion.

Translated by myself, not perfect but it should give an idea,

" We would like to thank all the participants who suggested #adıErenolsun ( name should be Eren) for the poll for naming our first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

We named our airplane 'Macka' which is the native region of our hero Eren.

We carry our flag with pride, we fly for this country.

So glad we have you"

For Turkish speakers, iyi ki varsınız, how do I translate that ?

"We would like to thank all our guests who participated in the survey we made to decide a name of our first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of our fleet and who supported us by saying #NameItEren.

We named our new plane "Maçka", the hometown of our hero Eren. Our first flight to Trabzon. Together with his family, we will visit Eren."

So Maçka's first flight will be to Trabzon.

Turkish Airlines removes all MAX from the system from late October.

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/ai ... -oct-2019/

Also, Air Arabia Maroc is adding Tangier Istanbul (SAW) flights.

3O439 TNG1800 – 0030+1SAW 320 4
3O439 TNG1810 – 0040+1SAW 320 6

3O430 SAW0120 – 0405TNG 320 5
3O430 SAW0130 – 0315TNG 320 7

This seems like a pretty horrible schedule unless they offer connections ... which I would be surprised if they do.

TK has now taken delivery of their 7th A321neo, TC-LSF. TC-LSH is probably going to be delivered quite soon.

Not to bring it up again but currently in a TK 738 from Antalya taxiing at IST for now over 18 minutes, is there a way to fix this taxi situation or we’re just gonna learn to live with it? This can’t be the way they planned it, no way knowing it would take this long to taxi

-It might get better for domestic flights when the 3rd runway opens next year, since it is closer to the Domestic Piers. But let's not forget, IST is going to keep going busier and I doubt that those taxi times are going to get shorter. And another reminder, back in last March on a weekday around 10 am, we taxied for 50 minutes at Ataturk, because fo congestion at taxiways, we were number 11 for takeoff and only 1.5 km from gate to head of runway. At IST that distance could be close to 9km.

-On another note, I am sitting at DLM lounge and witnessing a DLM classic; a ratio of 32 adults to 12 children. Thank you Bose for creating noise cancelling headphones

A 737 Pilot made a video on his youtube channel explaining the long taxi time on the new airport compared to Ataturk.
- The new airport is bigger so its natural that the taxi ways are longer.
- Ataturk was so congested that they sometimes would wait 1 hour on the runway to depart.
- Ataturk had a serious incoming air-traffic leading to delays and more gas consumption.
Basically Ataturk wasn't much better than the current situation at IST. People just like to complain about anything.

Some bad news for TC-LLA.
According to airporthaber and havarenmedya, a window of the 787 has been damaged by the spot lights in the hangar during press shooting. A boeing technical team has been
summoned with equipment to investigate.

Looks like we will have to get used to that. When parking at the gates on the east side of the terminal, taxi times are 15-20 mins.. Same happened to my flight on June 27.
Interesting layout though with the elevation of the taxiway to go round and below the runway instead of crossing it..

Otherwise the airport is very impressing and nice although flooring work could been much better done.

I just came across TK6327 operating a cargo flights from Algiers to Vienna. Are cargo plane leases common and isn't this a considerable jump in capacity from A33F that usually operates on the route?

TK for a few years now has leased 747 freighter capacity from Kalitta Air and Atlas Air. Our forum member Bahadir has operated some of those trips.

Thanks but do they do it because they lease a B747 becayse they need extra capacity or because they don't have enough aircraft?

Both. Also, it's a cost cutting measure. Most of the TK freight fleet is leased.

Saw on Twitter that the windows of the brand-new 787 just melted during photo/video shooting session. How is that even possible?

Maybe they should have thought about the fact that 787 passenger windows are not like traditional aircraft windows. Instead of a thick slab of outer glass, 787 windows which are electrochromic and are made of two thin sheets of glass with an electrified gel in between. Not surprising they can't stand the heat that traditional windows can.

Both. TK cargo demand has been growing immensely in recent years so even with new 777F arriving, and A330F fleet growing they need the added lift from ACMI operators.
