Was a little bit of talk earlier about what will happen with the SYD-HND and fact HND can't really use the A380. Lot of different rumors about how QF will handle it but talk has been splitting the flight between HND and NRT. Like a 789 to HND with the premium config, then either 330 or even 380 on a less than daily scheduled to NRT. Personally I think that 1 daily to each with NRT being a 330 would be a better idea, where the 330 could be taken from is anyones guess.

There has been some talk on the NZ thread about QF replacing one of the A330 SYD-AKL services with a 789 in December/January, the aircraft rotate between SFO and AKL, like SYD-SFO-SYD-AKL-SYD

The bigger story here is what might happen to AirNorth - nothing yet on the board about this. Its parent has gone into Ch11 bankruptcy. Airnorth is not in Ch11 but could be sold to pay down parent debts.

Hi, I've been reincarnated - previous name 'moolor'. I had website issues several months ago that sound a lot like the ones TN486T was having under his old name. I hadn't gotten around to re-registering until now.

Anyway, FJ are having a $350 SYD-NAN return 72 hour sale to celebrate the A350 joining the fleet - get in quick if you want to do a quick lap.

I only mention this because I don't recall seeing it mentioned that FJ will be flying the A350 to SYD and to LAX. May well have missed the mention though.

Why?

Not sure I can answer the question "why", other than it's a simplification. At present NZ's international flight numbers indicate whether a a WB (0xx, 1xx, 2xx) or NB (7xx, 8xx, 9xx) is scheduled. Flight numbers 3xx, 4xx, 5xx and 6xx are domestic mainline jet services.

With this change, flight numbers no longer reflect the aircraft type. For example, Flight NZ109 under the current system is a WB service AKL-SYD departing 1250; the exact same scheduled times when operated with a NB aircraft have a flight number NZ709. Under the new system all AKL-SYD flights departing 1250, whether NB or WB, become NZ109. AKL-APW flight NZ296 at 0845 is currently a WB service; the same schedule operated with a NB is NZ996. After the change, all services AKL-APW departing 0845 become NZ996 whether WB or NB. And so on and so forth.

Speaking of domestic 747 flying, QF 744 VH-OEG has made a couple of visits to Rockhampton over the past 2 days on what I can only presume are defence charters.

Yes certainly easier from that perspective. On the other hand, the 1XX vs 7XX numbering had the benefit that it was easy to recognise by the flight number alone if W and J cabins are available on that particular flight (given that NZ's NB fleet is Y only), especially on those routes from MEL & SYD to AKL where depending on the day of the week this might change.

Get ready for a value engineered solution then.

As has been mentioned previously in regards to airport projects, the airports will only build what the airlines will be willing to pay for. No ‘Taj Mahal’ is likely in a situation like that.

T4 at MEL is a prefect example of what a collaboration airport project can become, so not sure I would be too excited by this news.

Out of interest why did they position OEB from SFO-LAX and then fly to TUP several days later?

If it's going to Tupelo then that's a one way flight to the funny farm. It's a scrapping facility.

Bet it's all about removing usable parts/swapping new parts with old ones so the newer ones can be used in the rest of the fleet, probably with a paint job to paint over the title and logo as well

I'm going to try and do the same, I've done one B747 domestic leg sitting upstairs and it was insanely enjoyable. I reckon the mainstream public is much more enamoured with the B747 than the A380, especially 'older' people who recall the 747's glory days. I consider the 747 was a really inspired game-changer, the A380 was more a commercial play which generally packed more people onto a bigger aircraft. It lacks that 'romance'.

It was an hangover from the Zeal320 / Freedom Air days when NZ/SJ shared an single A320 fleet some painted Yellow, others painted white either could operate an NZ or SJ service with the aircraft operated by NZ's holding company Zeal320 (was Freedom Airs AOC and cheaper cost base crew).

A320 services sold by Freedom Air we're 9XX flight numbers prefixed with SJ, and 700-899 flight numbers prefixed with NZ we're services sold by Air New Zealand.

I'm on the ADL-SYD QF736. I've opted to sit as far back in economy as possible with the seat selection - may as well milk my time on the Queen.

The only other QF 747 I've been on was VH-OJB when it had the Wunala Dreaming livery for a SYD-HKG flight back in the mid-90's, so the excitement levels for this flight are quite high.

Alliance (QQ) to increase its DRW base from 1x F100 to 2x F100 and 2x F70 by the end of this year. Article also suggests QQ has its eye on RPT services from DRW/NT.

Any idea on why this keeps getting pushed back? I would have thought now was the best time to get started on this while the A380 schedule is reduced.

Also, does anyone know if the A380 will be returning to HKG this southern summer or will it stay 787 due to the A380 refurb's?

Don't think it's been pushed back. Articles from earlier in the year had the first one commencing in July, which would likely mean a September return to service.

Think there was just some wishful thinking when the first aircraft went to DRS, seemingly just for a C-check.

Another site as well as The Courier Mail are reporting on an upcoming CASA audit of BNE based Nauru Airlines. Audit appears to be triggered by internal senior management request at ON with a dysfunctional corporate culture + many other problems.

Qantas is fully aware of that hence why they dropped the 300 passengers about a year ago. They have consistently said it will be a four class aircraft with a larger premium area. As both PER-LHR and SYD-DFW have proven if they can fill the premium cabins, they can block some Y seats and still make money on the route

This may seem like a stupid question but don't CASA audit airlines all the time (both foreign and domestic)? Not uncommon to see CASA staff at airports conducting surprise audits on aircraft... or will this be a bigger audit? The article is behind a paywall so can't read it.

Saturday at America Travel Expo in BNE, an AA rep was asked if they plan BNE of which the answer was yes. So most likely BNE is getting service from AA. Could be DFW or LAX.

Saturday at America Travel Expo in BNE, an AA rep was asked if they plan BNE of which the answer was yes. So most likely BNE is getting service from AA. Could be DFW or LAX.


Is that an actual reliable source? An AA rep? I'm sure BNE is in AA's plans. When that happens though? Who knows.

Everything so far is speculation and other sources are saying BNE is not in AA's immediate plans.

So far it sounds like LAX-MEL and more AKL service are the two main rumours from what is apparently fairly reliable sources.

With the Aus-US market under capacity and yields pressure I would be surprised if too much more is going to be added in the short term. Perhaps once this all falls into play I'm sure there will be a few net gains in frequencies and capacity but we aren't talking an additional 3 daily flights off the mark. Market would not handle it.
