DFW Foreign Carrier Estimated April 2019 Loads

Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:25 pm

Here are the estimated load factors for the foreign carriers at DFW for April 2019. Japan and Lufthansa are the standouts for the month in the high 80s. Air France's first full month on the DFW-Paris CDG route sees them at a respectable 76%.

I'm not sure about Qantas, but April looks like it was ugly for them. Nearly half empty A380s. Now as I always state, I am estimating their seats blocked for the return (based on something I was told ages ago), so the 75 being blocked is probably off and certainly probably changes a bit each day. I'd love if someone had updated info! But the fact is, when you have 25 A380s and you run 8,702 arriving and just 4,890 departing passengers, the loads can't be good either way. The flip side is that QF is apparently selling out most of the premium seats on this route most days, so money may still easily be made. 14 First, 64 Business seats.

Thoughts? Updates on QF seats?

If they purchase their project sunrise plane, can they use that to replace the A380 flying to DFW? Maybe that will ensure LF and yield at the same time.

People have commented here that SYD-DFW does well with Australian corporate travelers with F/J selling full most days. This is what keeps the A380 on the route. If they didn't have that they'd downgrade to the 789 and launch MEL-DFW.

I would agree there - if you are coming close to selling 14F and 64J on each flight, at some of the prices I've seen listed on the QF site, Y can break even hopefully and the gravy is made up front.

My understanding is there is still no cargo on the route - particularly on the westbound due to the range issues.

Air France just might survive…Let’s just see how they do with AAs 2nd flight to CDG

They've occasionally upgauged TA440 SAN-DFW to a 320neo. They must be doing well on that route for that upgauge.
2019: DAL, MCI, PHX, LAS, DFW, SAT, ORD, SLC, SEA, DTW; B73G (WN x3), B738 (WN, AA, DL), A20N (NK), MD83 (AA), B788 (AA x2), CS1 (DL), 739 (DL), 712 (DL)
Next: AA: DFW-PHL (752), PHL-MIA (763), MIA-LAX (77W), LAX-DFW (789)

It’s because their E190s are being retried

AA/QF joint venture has been tentatively approved. April is also one of the slowest months for travel demand in Australia.

The loads on QR look pretty impressive, considering that its for April. I believe the average load is up by about 6% from April of 2018. I bet its gonna go up even more now that they have the A350-1000, which has fewer economy class seats and more business class capacity.

Qatar had 84% arriving and 59% departing, ~71% average last April, 6% lower than this year.

I believe the A35K has 30 less seats than the 77W they were using so starting June their LFs should go up.

For almost all airlines, the departure flights load factor is lower than the arriving flights. And for some, it's significantly lower:
QF 71% vs 40%
KE 87% vs 67%
EK 83% vs 58%
JL 94% vs 82%
Volaris 67% vs 57%

What's going on? I think almost all passengers buy round trip tickets for international flights (i.e. pax flying in would fly out, and pax going out from DFW would come back) so one would think the incoming and outgoing load factors would be similar? Granted, there are people flying in in April but flying out in May, but there are also people flying in in March but flying out in April, so these should roughly balance out too.
